JOB SUMMARY

Highmark seeks a highly motivated Lead IT Infrastructure Engineer/Lead Mainframe Platform Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of our critical mainframe systems. This role requires deep expertise in z/OS, DB2, IMS, CICS, MQ, and related technologies, and will involve leading complex projects, troubleshooting critical issues, and mentoring junior engineers. The successful candidate will drive platform improvements, ensure high availability and performance, and champion best practices within a geographically dispersed data center environment. Experience with automation (IBM Systems Automation), diagnostic tools, and disaster recovery planning is essential. This position requires strong collaboration skills and a commitment to fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for one or many of the following tasks: analyzing, designing, coding, testing andimplementingtechnical solutions, as well as providing general production monitoring and support, meeting defined scope, target dates and budgets with minimal or no defects.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across IT, product, analytics, and business teams to gather requirements and provide technical solutions that meet organizational needs

  • Monitor work against production schedule andprovide progress updates and report any issues or technical difficulties to leadership on a regular basis.

  • Document technical processes and procedures, and participate in technical reviews and knowledge sharing sessions

  • Collaborate on the design and implementation of with architecture to ensure solution alignment to enterprise goals and standards

  • Mentor other associate and intermediate technical engineers as needed

  • Perform technical analysis and provide insights to support decision-making across various departments

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest relevant technologies and industry best practices

  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 5 years of experiences in one or many of the following tasks: analyzing, designing, coding, testing and implementing technical solutions, as well as providing general production support, meeting defined scope, target dates and budgets with minimal or no defects.

  • 5 years of technical problem solving, solution implementation, team/project collaboration

  • 5 years of basic computer science concepts and principles, common operating systems, development languages/scripting

Preferred

  • Expert level z/OS Mainframe Systems Programming background, including SMPE, DB2, IMS, and CICS.

  • Experience working with vendors to resolve software and systems issues

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems quickly.

  • Skilled at communicating with all levels of management

  • Good project management skills

  • Able to work off-hours and weekends and scheduled, 24x7x365 on-call responsibilities.

  • Ability to learn quickly and apply highly complex and technical concepts in a highly available environment.

  • 10 plus years' experience with IBM z/Series mainframe
