About Safe Harbor: Safe Harbor is a private 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides pathways for people impacted by domestic abuse to survive and thrive and raises awareness of domestic abuse through community engagement and education in Greenville, Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens Counties. Our services include a 24/7 helpline, emergency shelters, therapy, case management, legal advocacy, housing assistance, and trainings through education and prevention.

Internship Summary: Safe Harbor's Prevention Intern will work alongside the prevention coordinator to implement strategic community-based prevention programming that is culturally relevant and accessible, with the intent to reach communities impacted by domestic abuse. Prevention programming includes the Relationship Education Project (REP) and training that aims to provide the community and youth with education and skills to prevent domestic abuse.

The interns' functions include, but are not limited to, data entry, PowerPoint edits and presentations, REP-1 Presentations in schools, community engagement (tabling, speaking requests for youth-based events), and facilitating partnerships with groups that may interface with victims of domestic and dating abuse, such as schools, community groups, faith communities, and other non-profit organizations and businesses.

This internship is a part time and unpaid position but will fulfill practicum requirements for many major programs.

Reports To: Prevention Coordinator and Education Program Manager


Internship Responsibilities:

  • Assists in facilitating REP-1 presentations in schools and community groups.
  • Actively pursues opportunities and relationships to build collaborative partnerships with community groups and schools, prioritizing domestic violence prevention in the Safe Harbor Greenville service area.
  • Attend outreach and tabling events where Safe Harbor Education and Prevention are requested.
  • Assist in researching, editing, and updating downloadable content based on culturally relevant information for the prevention curriculum.
  • Assist in completing appropriate documentation for data obtained after the school curriculum.
  • Collaborate with the Education team to develop and implement a strategic and comprehensive education and prevention plan for the Safe Harbor service area of Greenville County.
  • Participate in Safe Harbor staff meetings, team meetings, training, and continuing education.
  • Enthusiastically supports and models the vision and mission of Safe Harbor to staff, clients, and the community.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.


Essential Qualifications:

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus, though not required
  • Undergraduate level (preferred semester junior or senior)
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal and written; Public speaking experience preferred
  • Must work well independently and with a team. This position works primarily outside an office (from home and in community-based settings). Candidates must display initiative, integrity, and dedication to this position.
  • Ability to relate to others empathetically, non-judgmentally, and supportively.
  • Possess a valid SC Driver's License and/or reliable transportation for work-related travel
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evening and weekend hours
