Computer Science Grad information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Computer Science Graduate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Science Graduate, you need a solid understanding of programming languages, algorithms, data structures, and fundamental computer science concepts, typically gained through a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with development environments, version control systems like Git, and frameworks relevant to your specialization is often expected. Problem-solving, teamwork, and strong communication skills help you collaborate efficiently and adapt to evolving project requirements. These skills and qualities are crucial for building robust software solutions and succeeding in dynamic technology-driven workplaces.

What are some common entry-level positions for recent computer science graduates, and how do they typically collaborate within a team?

Recent computer science graduates often start in roles such as software engineer, QA analyst, IT support specialist, or junior web developer. In these positions, you'll usually work as part of a project team alongside more experienced engineers, designers, and sometimes product managers. Collaboration is key—you'll participate in code reviews, daily stand-up meetings, and pair programming sessions to learn best practices and contribute to shared goals. This team-oriented environment not only helps build technical skills but also offers mentorship opportunities and exposure to different aspects of software development.

What are Computer Science grads?

They possess knowledge and skills in areas such as programming, algorithms, data structures, software engineering, and computer systems. These graduates are equipped to pursue careers in various tech fields including software development, data analysis, cybersecurity, and more. Their education often includes both theoretical foundations and practical experience with modern technologies.

Job description

Thank you for your interest in Uncountable Engineering!
Description
Uncountable is looking for a product manager who recently graduated from or will graduate from university. This role is perfect for a high-achieving CS student who is interested in breaking into product management right away or looking to gain more well-rounded product and business experience before starting their own company. This will be a fast paced role with a lot of responsibility and a steep learning curve.
Our goal is to revolutionize industrial research and development. We're looking for a motivated PM who can help to build a state of the art development platform that will be used across Fortune 500 companies.
This role is an in-person role working out of either our San Francisco or New York office.
Primary Responsibility
You primary responsibility will be to prioritize features, plan projects, triage issues, and assist engineers.
Examples:
- Writing up 20+ tickets on a weekly basis with implementation plans
- Developing planning documents for larger projects
- Making judgement calls about which customer-facing issues to work on next
- Participating in management-level discussions and company strategic initiatives to get a broader perspective on how the Uncountable platform should evolve
Important Caveats
Read these before applying.
- Uncountable is an engineering-first organization and needs a PM that can work closely with engineers. We will not consider applications from those without a CS degree. You will be asked to write code during the interview process.
- Uncountable values execution over idea generation. The leverage you will have as a PM will be a function of the hours you put in writing tickets, assisting engineers, and more. This is a role where expect a lot of hard work.
