Computer Science Grad information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Computer Science Graduate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Science Graduate, you need a solid understanding of programming languages, algorithms, data structures, and fundamental computer science concepts, typically gained through a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with development environments, version control systems like Git, and frameworks relevant to your specialization is often expected. Problem-solving, teamwork, and strong communication skills help you collaborate efficiently and adapt to evolving project requirements. These skills and qualities are crucial for building robust software solutions and succeeding in dynamic technology-driven workplaces.

What are some common entry-level positions for recent computer science graduates, and how do they typically collaborate within a team?

Recent computer science graduates often start in roles such as software engineer, QA analyst, IT support specialist, or junior web developer. In these positions, you'll usually work as part of a project team alongside more experienced engineers, designers, and sometimes product managers. Collaboration is key—you'll participate in code reviews, daily stand-up meetings, and pair programming sessions to learn best practices and contribute to shared goals. This team-oriented environment not only helps build technical skills but also offers mentorship opportunities and exposure to different aspects of software development.

What are Computer Science grads?

Computer Science grads are individuals who have completed a degree program in computer science, typically at the undergraduate or graduate level. They possess knowledge and skills in areas such as programming, algorithms, data structures, software engineering, and computer systems. These graduates are equipped to pursue careers in various tech fields including software development, data analysis, cybersecurity, and more. Their education often includes both theoretical foundations and practical experience with modern technologies.

What is the difference between Computer Science Grad vs Software Developer?

While a Computer Science Grad typically refers to someone with a degree in computer science, a Software Developer is a professional actively involved in coding and building software applications. Many Computer Science Grads pursue roles as Software Developers, but the latter emphasizes practical skills and work experience. Understanding this difference helps job seekers target the right roles and employers effectively.

Job description

WHY WE EXIST

Money should move as easily as data.

It doesn't today. Technology is finally catching up to the need — customers expect instant, global, programmable money. HIFI exists to fix that. Our mission is to make money programmable by default, and to give developers and businesses the tools to move value at software speed.

We're rebuilding the financial plumbing of the internet from the ground up.

WELCOME TO THE HIFI NEW GRAD PROGRAM

This role is part of HIFI's New Grad Program — a structured 3-month contract designed to give early-career talent real ownership, real mentorship, and a real path to full-time employment. You won't be handed busywork. You'll be embedded in a team working on live infrastructure from day one, paired with a senior colleague who will support your growth, and evaluated for a full-time offer at the end of your contract.

We're not looking for someone who has all the answers. We're looking for someone who asks the right questions, moves with urgency, and raises the bar every week they're here.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Build and maintain backend services and APIs that handle real money movement at scale, with full end-to-end ownership

  • Write clean, well-tested, production-ready code — and participate actively in code reviews with the same standard

  • Contribute to architecture discussions and technical design decisions alongside senior engineers

  • Investigate and resolve bugs and production incidents with urgency and thoroughness

  • Learn the mechanics of financial infrastructure — ledgering, settlement, stablecoin rails, onchain connectivity — from the inside out

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Currently completing (expected graduation June 2026) or recently completed Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field — or equivalent demonstrated experience

  • Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and systems

  • Proficiency in at least one backend language — JavaScript, Go, Node.js, or similar — and a willingness to learn others

  • Ability to write readable, maintainable code and explain your technical decisions clearly

  • Curiosity, humility, and a bias toward asking questions — you don't pretend to know what you don't

NICE TO HAVE

  • Internship or project experience shipping backend code in a team environment with real users

  • Exposure to APIs, relational databases, or distributed systems concepts through coursework or projects

  • Personal or academic projects involving fintech, crypto, blockchain, or payments — even small ones

  • You've built something real — show us the repo and walk us through the decisions you made

THE HIFI CODE

This is how we operate. Not aspirational — actual.

Ownership If you touch it, you own it.

Speed We bias toward motion.

Clarity Confusion is a signal to act.

Standards Quality matters always.

Truth We value directness without drama.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The expected salary range for this role is $90,000 - $110,000 USD. However, the starting base pay will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.

This role begins as a 3-month contract with a structured path to full-time employment upon successful completion. During the contract period, we offer commuter benefits ($250 travel stipend)

Must be within commutable distance from our New York office and able to work in person most days of the week
