Job description
Quantitative Research & Development Team
Full-Time
Boston, MA, New York, NY or Springfield, MA
The Opportunity
As an Investment Quantitative Product Consultant on the Quantitative Product Development team within Quantitative Research & Development (QRD), you'll build and improve the portfolio management and analytics tools used by Portfolio Managers, Quantitative Strategists, and Investment Research teams. You'll partner closely with QRD, Portfolio Management, and Technology to turn investment and quantitative needs into scalable, high-quality solutions-supporting portfolio construction, investment analysis, and scenario testing in an Agile/DevOps environment. You'll act as a bridge between investment teams and engineers-asking the right questions, challenging assumptions when needed, and applying strong analytical judgment to deliver tools with clear day-to-day impact.
The Team
The Quantitative Research and Development (QR&D) Team is responsible for researching, designing, testing, and enhancing quantitative models and analytical tools that support systematic investment strategies, portfolio construction, and risk management. The team applies advanced statistical techniques, financial theory, and data science to transform data into scalable, well-governed solutions that enable informed investment decision-making.
The Impact
As an Investment Product Consultant, your responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:
Front Office Product & Solution Design
- Partner with Portfolio Managers and Quantitative Research to understand workflows, user needs, and analytical requirements.
- Assess investment processes, methodologies, and data needs to define product capabilities and priorities.
- Research, design, and document portfolio management and analytics solutions.
- Translate business and quantitative requirements into scalable, maintainable solution designs.
- Evaluate trade-offs, dependencies, and risks; contribute to design reviews with engineering and QRD.
Delivery & Execution
- Support applications through the full delivery lifecycle in an Agile/DevOps model.
- Contribute to estimates, test strategy, and implementation planning.
- Participate in testing analytics, portfolio calculations, and data transformations.
- Ensure solutions meet performance, reliability, and usability expectations.
- Identify issues early and partner with stakeholders to drive resolution.
Data, Analytics & Architecture
- Work with data-centric architectures, including multi-dimensional and time-series investment data.
- Maintain data integrity and transparency across portfolio views and analytics.
- Analyze large data sets to support validation and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate on APIs, services, and platform components that enable analytics use cases.
Collaboration & Professional Growth
- Build strong working relationships across Quantitative Research, Portfolio Management, and Technology.
- Communicate clearly with both technical and investment audiences.
- Propose improvements to analytics, tooling, and delivery practices.
- Grow your product thinking, technical depth, and investment domain knowledge.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, financial engineering, mathematics, quantitative finance, information technology or related field
- 3+ years of experience designing and delivering complex technology solutions.
- 3+ years of experience supporting front-office investment or quantitative analytics platforms.
- 2+ years of experience working with investment data models and analytics-driven systems.
- 2+ years of experience with standard documentation and analysis tools (Visio, Excel, Word).
Ideal Qualifications
- Master's degree in computer science, financial engineering, mathematics, quantitative finance, information technology or related field
- CFA or demonstrated progress toward CFA designation
- 5+ years designing and delivering complex technology solutions
- 5+ years supporting front-office investment or quantitative analytics platforms (e.g., Aladdin or similar).
- Strong understanding of portfolio management concepts, investment analytics, financial instruments, and the trade lifecycle across a range of asset classes.
- Demonstrated experience designing analytics-focused, portfolio-oriented tools; strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of Agile/DevOps and SDLC practices (e.g., Jira, Confluence) and strong data analysis skills using modern tooling and BI platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Proficiency with product/project documentation (e.g., charters, business requirements, milestone planning) and comfort operating with limited guidance while proactively communicating progress and risks.
- Clear, collaborative communication style and ability to work independently on complex problems.
MassMutual offers the opportunity to do meaningful work within a purpose-driven organization that values long-term impact over short-term outcomes. In this role, you can expect:
