Job description
The Department of Computer Science at Baylor University seeks qualified candidates for a tenure-track position with the rank of Assistant Professor in Cybersecurity. This position will begin in August 2027. Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related discipline. We seek exceptional candidates in broad areas of cybersecurity. Applications from all areas within Cybersecurity are encouraged. Potential topics include but are not limited to foundations for information security (cryptography and formal methods), system security (hardware, software, platforms) across a wide range of systems, network and wireless security, AI security, human factors in security, and privacy. Successful candidates will have a commitment to excellence in teaching, exhibit the potential to support an independent research agenda, and have effective communication and organization skills.
Baylor University's Cybersecurity Research and Education Initiative aims to significantly advance knowledge within the cybersecurity community. Baylor is designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CD) and Cyber Research (CAE-R). Additionally, the Central Texas Cyber Range (CTCR) equipped with state-of-the-art facilities fosters cybersecurity education, applied research, and community engagement.
The selected candidate will be expected to initiate and conduct research as well as perform academic duties associated with our undergraduate and graduate programs. The primary responsibilities are teaching courses, developing an externally funded research program, and leading graduate and undergraduate students in research. Active participation in departmental service is also expected.
About the Department:
Baylor's ABET-accredited Computer Science Department currently has twelve tenured/tenure-track faculty, including the McCollum Family Chair of Data Science, and seven lecturer faculty members. The faculty are internationally recognized in research areas including data science, bioinformatics, machine learning, cybersecurity, computer vision, and computer systems. The department is housed within the Hankamer Building and the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC; see https://bric.research.baylor.edu/). The department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Computer Science. It also offers the BSI degree with majors in Bioinformatics, Data Science, and Cybersecurity. Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Computer Science, or a closely related field is required.
- A commitment to teaching excellence in areas relevant to the position and, for candidates with prior teaching experience, a record of successful teaching
- A demonstrated research achievement and publication record commensurate with appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor
- Outstanding communication skills
Preferred qualifications:
- Special consideration will be given to candidates who have demonstrated strong scholarship and have an established and active independent research agenda in cybersecurity or closely related areas.
- To exhibit a passion for teaching and mentoring at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
