Job description

Purpose
Design and assist with the design of electric distribution projects. The designs are based on customer requests, inquiries, complaints, etc. regarding the establishment and maintenance of electrical service. Designs also include overhead and underground electric facilities, distribution system maintenance, repair, and improvement, public works, and routine program work.
Accountabilities
  • Perform work independently as required, taking responsibility for work and supporting it from start to finish. Meeting job requirements and deadlines.
  • Coordinate with the Manager, Electric Engineering and be cognizant of design work and job statuses.
  • Apply acquired knowledge of Liberty Utilities construction standards, Electrical Service Information and Requirements, and portions of the National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code to construction applications.
  • Read and interpret one-line diagrams, site plans and load information.
  • Perform critical analysis of electrical distribution design problems and develop design solutions
  • Be proficient in the current expanded Work Management Systems required to produce and progress Design Packages.
  • Effectively communicate with external customers, municipal and regulatory representatives, and contractors on a regular basis.
  • Advise customers in the proper application and required technical specifications of their electric service.
  • Interact with internal departments and company employees to ensure an efficient overall process.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and efficient resource utilization, both throughout the department and project teams.
  • Travel within region.
  • Once proficient, will be part of pager standby/on call Supervisor rotation
  • Participate in the training of lower level employees.
  • Will also be expected to respond to emergency call out and work extended and planned hours when major company emergencies occur. Emergency roles could include office assignments or external field support roles.
  • Must have demonstrated proficiency in Liberty's Clearance and Control Tagging and Safety Procedures.
  • Assist with the securing of permits and licenses, municipal/governmental requirements, and private property easements to complete designs and advance the project as needed.
  • Provide technical support to operate and maintain the electrical system.
  • Participation as a technical expert in customer and municipal/government meetings as the company's electric system representative

Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering; Engineering Technology or Computer Science from an accredited Engineering or technological school is preferred.
  • Associate Degree in Engineering; Engineering Technology or Computer Science AND at least 4 years' experience and the ability to meet all Electric Distribution Engineer-A qualifications will be considered.
  • Ability to follow prescribed standards and procedures.
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to plan, schedule & coordinate multiple ongoing tasks.

Knowledge & Experience
  • Thorough knowledge of customer service techniques, strategies, and approaches.
  • Detailed knowledge of electric theory and utility construction practices.
  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop positive customer relations; anticipate, identify, respond to customer concerns and problems, in accordance with the job description and training.
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team with co-workers. Robust understanding of local municipality regulations and permit requirements. Motivated, self-starter with ability to work in a flexible and fast paced environment. Familiarity with good utility practice and business management including regulatory requirements is desired.
