Purpose
Selected students will get part-time on-the-job experience at one of our locations while attending high school. This position supports the Service Department to provide extraordinary customer service on new and used John Deere equipment. Additional duties may be assigned and directed by store management.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Service Manager and technicians in the efficient operation of the department.
  • Clean, organize, and maintain the condition of shop, vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist service technicians as needed, including delivery of parts.
  • Assist service technicians with repairing, servicing, and moving equipment.
  • Accountable for billable time and assigned work orders.
  • Responsible for complete and thorough documentation of diagnostics and repairs performed on work orders and on time submittal of information.
  • May participate in Service Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge.
  • Properly operate and maintain condition of vehicles, tools and equipment required to perform job responsibilities.
  • Maintain a clean work area and perform work in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.
  • Account for all time and material used in performing assigned duties.
  • Develop skills in removal, disassembly, and reconditioning of components.
  • May perform pre-delivery set-up and inspection on new equipment.
  • Complete assigned duties in other departments as requested.
  • Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and support resources, with a constant commitment to teamwork and exemplary customer service.•

Experience, Education, Skills, and Knowledge:
  • Attend a local high school
  • Maintain minimum required GPA (based on specific school for requirements)
  • Show an interest in learning methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in the repair of outdoor power equipment/agricultural equipment
  • Fundamental knowledge of engines, hydraulics, powertrains, air-conditioning, and electrical systems as they apply to machines marketed by the dealership
  • Experience operating vehicles, tools, and equipment used in machinery pre-delivery and set-up processes
  • Experience with basic computer functions
  • Experience working cooperatively in a team environment
  • Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing
  • Must have an adequate toolset to perform job responsibilities (may be provided by dealership)
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Driving record that meets Employer's insurance company requirements

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing the responsibilities of this job, the team member is required to talk and hear. The team member is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The team member is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and ability to lift to 25 lbs.
This position will require the team member to work in an office environment, in a vehicle repair facility, and in the field. In this position the team members will be exposed to engine and grinding noises.
