Job description

Our Enterprise Collaboration, AI, and Web Services (ECAWS) Team provides web application and collaboration solutions in support of the Laboratory's technical mission and its day-to-day operations. These solutions include intranet and collaboration tools, document management systems (such as SharePoint), and web application development. ECAWS supports the external website, Atlassian tools (Confluence and Jira), eForms, and enterprise search. The team also enables others to create Drupal websites, designs user experiences, and develops websites both internally and externally (for conferences). ECAWS provides application integration with web services for many existing and new business applications. Additionally, ECAWS integrates new technology capabilities, such as generative artificial intelligence (AI), enabling Laboratory personnel to be more effective and efficient.
Position Description
The AI Application Developer Co-op is part of the ECAWS team and will assist other developers on the team in the design and development of web interfaces and APIs for AI and cloud-based applications. Working within established development standards and best practices, the co-op will support updates, testing, issue resolution, and documentation efforts across the software development life cycle.
Seeking a qualified co-op candidate to support the ECAWS AI development effort between June - December 2026.
Responsibilities
  • Assist other developers on the team in the design and development of the web interfaces and APIs to the AI and cloud applications
  • Assist in the establishment of and follow design standards, design patterns, and best practices
  • Help the team with changes or updates related to AI applications and test those changes
  • Help others in the group in the resolution of issues, including the determination and provision of workaround solutions
  • Create documentation for all levels of the software development life cycle
  • Meet expected standards such as accuracy, thoroughness, and correctness in all assigned work

Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
  • Interest in AI-enabled applications, web development, and application integration
  • Familiarity with web technologies, APIs, or cloud application concepts preferred
  • Understanding of software development life cycle principles and version control concepts
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a structured, mission-driven team environment

This co-op role offers hands-on experience supporting AI-enabled enterprise applications while working alongside other ECAWS co-op roles, providing meaningful exposure to standards-driven development practices and real-world IT solutions.
Compensation for 2026
  • Technical Co-Op: $24.50 - $31.00 per hour (based on year in school)
  • Administrative Co-Op: $21.50 - $25.00 per hour (based on year in school)

Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
