Job Title: CAD Drafter II (Multi-hire: 2 positions)

FLSA Status: Contractor (6 months contract)

Position Overview:

The CAD Drafter II is responsible for producing accurate and detailed technical drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software in support of engineering and design initiatives. This role converts conceptual designs, specifications, and sketches into precise engineering documents that align with established standards and project requirements. The CAD Drafter II works closely with design engineers to ensure design intent is properly translated, resolves discrepancies between initial concepts and final drawings, and contributes to meeting departmental deadlines, quality expectations, and production targets.

Functions:

  • Create, revise, and maintain detailed 3D CAD drawings based on engineering specifications, layouts, and sketches
  • Translate conceptual designs into accurate, production-ready engineering drawings
  • Ensure all drawings comply with company standards, industry practices, and project requirements
  • Collaborate with engineers to clarify design intent and technical requirement detail
  • Review and update existing drawings to reflect design changes, corrections, or standard improvements
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between initial concepts and finalized CAD designs
  • Maintain organized drawing files, revision control, and detailed documentation for traceability
  • Support engineering teams by preparing wiring schematics, assemblies, and component drawings
  • Meet assigned deadlines while maintaining accuracy and adherence to production standards
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback into revised drawings
  • Assist in company standardization for a high quality engineering documentation for excellence
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Science, technology or math background preferred.
  • 2-4 years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of CAD/CADD principles and standards, including basic drafting conventions, dimensioning, and tolerancing used in technical and mechanical drawings
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software, with the ability to create, modify, and interpret models and drawings
  • Familiarity with Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools and concepts, with the ability to support engineering analysis workflows at a basic level
  • Understanding of mechanical drawing practices, including layouts, assemblies, and component detailing
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, blueprints, and sketches and translate them into accurate CAD drawings
  • Skill in conducting and incorporating feedback from design reviews, ensuring alignment with engineering intent and project requirements
  • Ability to provide effective engineering support, including preparing documentation, updating drawings, and assisting with design changes
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical drafting and documentation
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working with engineers and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and production standards in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong demonstrated written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of individuals in a diverse community.
