Job Description
Primary purpose:
We are looking for an early-career Electrical Engineer to join our Tallgrass Project Engineering team. This role offers hands-on exposure to power plant, pipeline systems, compressor stations, terminals, substations, and motor control centers supporting Major projects. Candidates with 0 to 5 years of experience will excel in this position by contributing to a diverse range of projects, from concept to execution.
Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Support the design, specification, and analysis of electrical systems, including substations, MW switchgear, LV Motor control centers, load analysis, and instrumentation that supports rotating equipment
  • Assist in project execution, from feasibility and front-end engineering to construction support and commissioning
  • Perform calculations, material selection, and electrical integrity assessments
  • Work closely with project managers, field personnel, and vendors to ensure technical accuracy and safety compliance
  • Participate in inspections, failure analysis, and reliability improvements of mechanical systems
  • Prepare engineering deliverables such as datasheets, reports, and drawing reviews
  • Follows prescribed procedures and conducts analyses to develop design options or recommendations
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed
  • This role will be up to 80% travel

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical engineering from an accredited institution in Engineering or a related field.
  • 0 to 5 years of electrical engineering experience (internships or co-ops in oil & gas are a plus)
  • Familiarity with electrical equipment used in pipeline or terminal operations
  • Working knowledge of CAD and engineering analysis tools (voltage drop, conduit fill, ohms law, and general electrical engineering calculations)
  • Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and a proactive mindset
  • Ability to work in both office and field environments as needed

Experience/Specific Knowledge (not required):
  • Exposure to midstream project work or operations support
  • Experience with pump or compressor station design
  • Root cause analysis or mechanical integrity experience

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Competencies, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of basic Engineering principles
  • Knowledge of the NEC/NFPA 70E
  • This role will travel up to 80%.
  • Works under direct supervision but displays initiative and moves toward requiring less supervision.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work.
  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate. (as applicable to job)
