Computer Operator I

Koniag IT Systems, LLC (KITS), a Koniag Government Services (KGS) company, is seeking a Computer Operator I to support KITS and our government customer in Baltimore, MD.

A Computer Operator I will be tasked with monitoring and controlling our operational systems. As a computer operator, you will be responsible for operating and troubleshooting mail sorting machines, other sorting equipment, and maintaining equipment inventories.

To ensure success as a computer operator, you should have a strong working knowledge of computer hardware and software systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and be able to work quickly in high-pressure situations. Ultimately, a top-class computer operator can set up, maintain, and troubleshoot operational issues without impeding productivity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepares equipment for operations by accessing software in computer.
  • Uses computer terminals to enter commands, activate equipment controls, and adjust settings to produce quality deliverables daily.
  • Ensures efficient production workflow by attentively following procedural instructions and performing duties immediately.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots issues regarding production processes, deadlines, and data transmissions across a multiplatform environment.
  • Responds to program error messages by finding and correcting problems.
  • Maintains incident logs for all monitored systems.
  • Assists with inventory control practices including identifying and locating the right products during the delivery process and daily workload; properly storing necessary inventory in designated areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills & Behaviors:
  • Knowledge of modern operating systems, networking, and MS Office software.
  • Knowledge of clerical and reporting skills.
  • Excellent attention-to-detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform accurately, assigned routine operations on various data processing equipment.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to listen effectively and express thoughts and opinions clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work well both alone and in highly structured team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications capabilities with good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds or more.
Education, Training, & Experience:
  • HS Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year of personal computer experience. (required)
  • Some higher education experience or successful completion of related programs in data processing and computer operations. (preferred)
  • Two years of experience in business mailroom, print operations, and/or mail sorting experience. (preferred)
  • Experience with using loading and maneuvering equipment safely and effectively. (preferred)
Qualifications:
  • Candidates who hold an active public trust government clearance are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates who are willing to undergo a background investigation to receive a government clearance will be strongly considered.
  • Candidates must be able to work Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm daily. (Hours may vary based on workload and candidates must be flexible)
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Must be able to stand for significant periods of time.
