Job description

The purpose of Southwire's College Programs is to provide valuable experience to students pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher. Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for proper set-up, changeover and operation of rewinding line in compliance with defined standards, production orders and operating procedures. Testing duties include staging, moving and preparation of product to be tested and actual dielectric testing of reels and coils.

          SAFETY

Working Safely is a condition of employment.
Employee is required to follow all Safety procedures and rules.
Employee is required to properly wear all required PPE.
Employee is required to review JSA for proper job sequence and hazards associated with job.
Employee is required to perform pre-operation safety inspection and hazard analysis.
Employee is required to perform area safety inspections.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for proper set-up, changeover and operation of Skaltek coiler.
  2. Check and maintain quality critical aspects of product as defined by process operating procedures.
  3. Report all mechanical, electrical, and quality problems to the shift supervisor.
  4. Properly package finished product.
  5. Generate PCS, rework or ship-out tag as needed on the shop floor terminal. 
  6. Inform the lift operator of the supplies that will be needed.
  7. Maintain a clean and orderly work area at all times.
  8. Observe SCMC safety rules and regulations.
  9. Compliance to SCMC ISO Quality System documentation and procedures to help guide/direct daily quality activities.
  10. Perform duties that may be deemed necessary by the supervision or management.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. Must be able to read and understand production orders.
  2. Must be able to complete time tickets
  3. Must use good judgment when operating machinery and equipment and determining causes of quality problems.
  4. Must be able to use computer to print material tags.
  5. Must be able to follow instructions from shift supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS:

1.         Moderately disagreeable working conditions.  Exposed to cold in winter and heat in summer.

  1. Job requires a large percentage (95%) of standing and/or walking time (12 hour shifts).
  2. Must be able to move full reels, spools, and coils short distances.
  1. Payoff reels can weigh in excess of 200 lbs (operator does not lift this entire weight but is required to align reels into position and roll them)
  2. Take-up packages can weigh in excess of 30 lbs
  1. Repetitive stacking of finished coils required - as many as 350 times per shift - (can weigh 30lbs - see above)
  2. Repetitive twisting/rolling of payoff and take-up reels (can weigh 200 lbs - see above)
