JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Student Success Specialist
Department: Administration
Reports To: Campus President
SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing basic training to students in the use of the Learning Resource Center and its contents, the online portal and any additional computer/online resources. The Student Success Specialist will work with individual students, as well as groups depending on the specific needs of the students to enhance their educational experience and the overall success of the student. Student success is monitored through student outcomes. Student satisfaction is monitored through surveys, as well as face-to-face interaction with students, staff, and faculty.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Educational Duties:
  • Assists with orientation and workshops, including Learning Resource Center training for students and MTI/DTC employees.
  • Maintain a current inventory of all LRC resources and the location of all resources.
  • Maintain an up to date binder with each programs LRC project that is required for Accreditation.
  • Conducts counseling with At-risk students to access their progression and determine services they might need to become successful.
  • Provide assistance to students who have requested accommodations.
  • Organizes all monthly lunch and learn sessions that provide students with additional resources in the following areas; study skills, test taking strategies, time management, budgeting, interviewing skills, soft-skills and many other varied topics specific to the needs of the current students. Minimum attendance of 25% of student population.
  • Complete two e-course per year through the American Library Association.
Student Support Groups/Services:
  • Continue to enhance the Ambassador program and provide leadership training to our student ambassadors.
  • Organize support groups based on the needs of the current student population to provide them with the opportunity to network with students in other classes and programs.
  • Assists students in need of daycare, additional funding, housing, transportation, etc.
  • Keep an updated copy of all community resources that are available for our students.
  • Update bulletin boards to promote Campus functions, activities and student help.
  • Compile a list of part-time jobs. Keeping an updated copy in their office in addition to posting them in the student lounge and around the campus for current student who are in need of a job.
  • Compile and maintain a list of local shelters as well as drug and alcohol abuse services in the community.
Career Services Support:
  • Compile an updated list of local job leads every week and send that information along to appropriate placement coordinators, pending graduates and/or graduates.
  • Assist pending graduates with interviewing skills through mock interviews.
  • Assists students in preparing cover letters, resumes, and thank you notes.
Campus Support:
  • Actively participate with the planning and implementation of New Student Orientation
  • Organizes graduation ceremony, compile graduate list, assist students with cap and gowns, meet with Student Accounts to verify graduate list.
  • Provide student ID’s to all incoming students within the first two weeks of class.
  • Organizes campus activities such as blood drives, cook outs, lunch and learns, etc.
  • Responsible for organizing and recruiting fund raising, charity, and community events.
  • Conduct quarterly surveys to monitor student satisfaction.
  • Attends weekly At-risk meetings, takes notes and enter into CampusVue.
  • Covers the absences of the front desk personnel including breaks.
  • Plan and participate with the by-annual Program Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Acts as the liaison for the Penn Foster program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Passion for helping individuals improve their quality of life through education.
  • Adaptable to change in a fast-paced environment and ability to adjust priorities as circumstances dictate.
  • Receptive to feedback and coaching.
  • General knowledge of college admissions processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have basic computer skills, including experience working with Microsoft Office programs, navigating multiple software programs simultaneously, and managing high volumes of phone calls and emails.
  • Aptitude to quickly learn new technologies such as Microsoft Office, email clients, telephony systems, etc.
  • Experience or willingness to work with adult learners.
  • Highly proficient analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to complete assigned duties in an organized and detailed fashion.
  • Take initiative to assist and support others.
  • Collaborative and cooperative attitude when working with coworkers and students.
  • Well-developed sense of integrity and commitment to student success.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of experience and education.
  • Experience in education, customer service, counseling, recruitment or enrollment management.
  • Ability to engage the public and create positive relationships.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and database use or willingness to gain necessary skills.
