Job Description
Control Operator III
The Control Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant equipment in accordance with written plant procedures and under the direction of the Senior Operator and Plant Manager. The Control Operator will work with corrective and preventative maintenance on plant electrical equipment instruments and controls. In the absence of specific orders and/or directives, the Control Operator exercises initiative, using experience and good judgment in plant operation and complies with all policies including those concerning safety and environmental.
Principle Responsibilities:
• Monitor and control the operation of all plant machinery and equipment under the direction of the Senior Operator.
• Monitor and be responsible for the effect on plant operations of all activities occurring in the plant and on the distribution system.
• Monitor and record plant operating parameters. Maintain logbooks as required,
• Operate as directed by the Senior Operator - start, run, maintain, and stop - plant machinery and equipment in a safe and efficient manner, including but not limited to: Boilers, Chillers, pumps, valves, etc.
• Inspect, test, troubleshoot, configure, repair, calibrate, and install mechanical, pneumatic, electric, and hydraulic control components and instrumentation.
• Perform electrical maintenance work as needed.
• Locate causes of defective or intermittent instruments, report findings to supervisor, and execute installation, repair or replacement and commissioning as required.
• Perform tests of operating equipment as directed and scheduled/unscheduled job assignments.
• Operate following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) and assist in continual improvement.
• Assist Maintenance Department with preventative and corrective maintenance on plant machinery and equipment.
• Be responsible for the Facility's appearance and housekeeping.
• Upgrade skills and knowledge of plant systems, equipment, and components as directed or required.
• Have or work to obtain knowledge and/or skill sets held by Senior Operator.
• Required to learn and comply with company policies and procedures with respect to Safety and Environmental.
• Ability to work remotely and be on call as needed.
Requirements
• High School diploma or equivalent. School diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of one-year operating experience in a physical plant.
• Previous experience operating and maintaining boilers, large electric drive chillers, large cooling towers, pumps and auxiliary equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Hands on maintenance and troubleshooting experience with chiller plants.
• Valid CA driver's license.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Ability to not only learn complex systems and work under direction, but also to react to emergencies using judgment and intuitive skills
• Computer proficiency required in MS Office, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Knowledgeable and experienced in the operation of digital and pneumatic controls.
• Ability to work in adverse climate conditions.
• Gathers data; identifies issues; relates and compares; identifies cause-effect; interprets different viewpoints; determines and takes a course of action after identifying and developing possible consequences.
• Seeks, acquires, and promptly applies new knowledge and skills, including interpersonal skills, new technology, and emerging industry practices. Adjusts quickly to change. Supports and champions change processes.
• Flexibility to work in fast-paced, environment with a "hands-on" team player approach.

Physical Requirements
• This position requires the ability to safely use, handle and inspect equipment containing (and perform maintenance near sources of), hazardous energy, hazardous chemicals and hazardous waste as those terms are defined under various safety and environmental regulations. The position requires the use of appropriate personal protective equipment for the hazards identified above. In the employee's normal immediate work area, this position requires the employee to be routinely familiar with, and to appropriately respond to, the hazards identified above, including, but not limited to repairs on equipment containing chemicals, containment of chemical leaks, response to electrical interruptions, etc. This response would encompass appropriate personal protection techniques, the following safety procedures such as (but not limited to) lock out/tag out procedures, and the following of environmental procedures. This position requires the ability to perform these functions with little supervision.
• Must be able to frequently climb ladders; climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways at elevations.
• This job requires the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells, and to see, hear, walk, and talk effectively.
