Job description

The Applied Networking team builds core infrastructure for device-to-device communication on Apple devices, including both messaging and realtime communications. The team's frameworks are behind sharing, collaboration, messaging, and secure connectivity, providing API surfaces that power Apple products such as iMessage, FaceTime, HomeKit, SharePlay, Apple Watch, AirDrop, and more.
We're looking for an exceptional software engineer with expertise in security to join us in building the most secure, private, reliable, and performant communications and networking protocols behind many of our customers' most loved Apple features. This developer will play a crucial role in safeguarding our users by designing, implementing, maintaining, and hardening security features that protect our users and preserve privacy.

Description
As a developer in this position, you will:
Build innovative networking and communications features that are secure by design
Design and implement communication protocols leveraging encryption, including both messaging and realtime media
Improve the security of especially sensitive codepaths (for example, zero-click parsing of untrusted data)
Be responsible for static analysis of source code, fuzzing, testing strategies, and down-to-earth security bug fixing
Work mostly in Swift and Objective-C, designing delightful APIs and implementing frameworks and daemons that make up the operating system
Participate in code reviews with a focus on identifying and mitigating security vulnerabilities
At Apple, user privacy and security are paramount. You will play a substantial role in advancing these features for hundreds of millions of users across the many products and services we make.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of secure coding practices, security protocols, and encryption techniques
Experience in finding and correcting bugs with security implications
Familiarity with peer-to-peer or client-server architecture and network protocols
Experience building applications using end-to-end encryption and/or media and realtime communication encryption
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Strong software development and architecture design skills with a focus on secure system design and communication protocols
Strong object-oriented and multi-threaded programming skills in at least one language like Swift, Objective-C, or C++
Excellent attention to detail and communication, collaboration, interpersonal skills
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $139,500 and $258,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
