Job description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The South Central Los Angeles Regional Center (SCLARC) is seeking a motivated individual for the Jr. Network Engineer position in the MIS Unit. This role collaborates closely with the MIS Manager and Sr Network Engineer to plan and implement new systems for the agency and to troubleshoot and resolve network, hardware, and software issues. It also serves as an escalation point for the Helpdesk team. The Jr Network Engineer will monitor network equipment and servers, proactively apply patches and updates, and troubleshoot, configure, or patch Cisco/Meraki devices. The ideal candidate will be organized and capable of working with minimal supervision. Additionally, this position involves developing documentation for the Helpdesk team. Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders are essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in designing, developing, and implementing IT networks and infrastructure services.
  • Perform general maintenance and system upgrades.
  • Support 3rd Parties in Integration activities and offer technical guidance on deployed solutions.
  • Undertake typical break-fix support activities on all network-related infrastructure and services.
  • Proactive in the resolution of engineering obstacles
  • Document Customer Network Topologies
  • Ensure compliance with all current client processes and procedures.
  • Assist in developing automation software tooling to bring efficiency within the organization.
  • Be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external clients.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Strong knowledge and understanding of Networking concepts (DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, VPN, etc.), Desktop as a Service (preferred Citrix experience),

virtualization (preferred VMware experience), enterprise VoIP systems, MDM platforms, cloud services (Azure, AzureAD, Exchange, AWS, etc.)

• Experience working in a Microsoft network environment

• Active Directory experience. Preferred: experience provisioning users, updating permissions, planning and deploying changes in AD, creating

deploying/troubleshooting GPOs, etc.

• Strong troubleshooting skills related to network issues.

• Windows 10/11 Professional/Enterprise PC troubleshooting experience

• Experience setting up, troubleshooting, patching/updating Windows servers (2019 and up)

• Some Linux knowledge


DESIRED SKILLS:

• Experience as Systems Admin, Microsoft 365 Admin, VoIP Admin

• Deep knowledge of Office 365 products

• Experience with VMware, strong understanding of virtualization and resource allocation

• PowerShell experience related to Exchange, AD

• Experience with SharePoint: setting up sites, managing permissions, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or related field, AND
    • At least one current certificate: CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Server+, CCNA, or other relevant certifications, AND
    • 2+ years of professional experience as a systems admin, IT Engineer/Technician, or Helpdesk (internships ok) OR Associate Degree (or Minor) in fields mentioned above, AND CompTIA A+ certification, AND
    • At least one current certificate: Network+, Security+, Server+, CCNA, or other relevant certifications, AND
    • 3+ years of professional experience as a systems admin, or a tier 2 IT Engineer/Technician, OR
    • 4+ years of professional experience as an IT Technician/Helpdesk (internships ok)
