Job Description

Johnson County's Department of Technology and Innovation is looking for a Network Administrator (Network Communication Analyst II). The Department of Technology and Innovation delivers innovative and reliable technology solutions and services to advance the objectives of County staff, elected officials, and the community in a cost effective and efficient manner.

This position is currently eligible to work in a hybrid work environment with both onsite and remote work. Residency within the Kansas City-Overland Park-Kansas City, MO-KS Combined Statistical Area, which generally includes the Kansas counties of Johnson, Wyandotte, Leavenworth, Miami, and Linn, and the Missouri counties of Jackson, Clay, Platte, Cass, and Ray, is required. Applications will be accepted through June 25, 2026.

The Network Administrator position is responsible for the following:

    Assists in the planning of network size, capacity, strategy, and equipment configuration; provides support for network and/or telecommunication functions; provides feedback on communication solutions for business problems within network/telecommunication environment.
  • Proposes, develops, prepares detailed specifications for implementation of new internal programs or modifications for vendor software; performs maintenance of networking equipment including upgrading hardware, operating software on routers and network switches.
  • Installs, coordinates, and maintains configuration over LAN and WAN networking infrastructure composed of numerous complex software and hardware components, such as switches, routers, firewalls, CSU/DSU and network management systems; maintains the inventory, replacement schedules, and maintenance contracts for network hardware and software.
  • Provides assistance to security, internet and LAN administrators; troubleshoots network outages, circuits, and network equipment failures; monitors and analyzes traffic patterns and bandwidth needs; researches, tests, evaluates, and recommends data communications hardware, software, and new communications technologies.
Job Requirements

Associate's degree in the following field(s) of study: Information Technology or relevant field and two (2) years of network administration or relevant experience including working with users to verify and troubleshoot network switching and routing issues is required.

Preference will be given to candidates who have a strong working knowledge of and experience with monitoring, troubleshooting and configuring Cisco networking equipment.

Experience can substitute for education. Education can substitute for experience.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
