We are seeking a Survey CAD Drafter who supports the drafting needs of survey projects under the supervision of the Director of Survey Drafting and Licensed Land Surveyor. This role focuses on producing high quality, boundary, topographic, or ALTA surveys using AutoCAD Civil 3D software. This position plays a key role in fulfilling in-house drafting needs and ensuring all surveys comply with applicable standards and jurisdictional requirements.


Responsibilities

  • Create surveys based on the clients' contracted needs in a timely manner.
  • Use imagery and field data, supplemented by Google Earth to create the linework of the hardscape and building(s) found within the subject property.
  • Use County websites to add information to the survey and pull any documents needed to complete the survey requirements per client contract.
  • Ensure surveys meet the requirements for the state in which they are performed, and the correct stamp and state information are provided within the survey.
  • Complete the cover sheet or required information for the survey.
  • Review and perform initial corrections on your own work prior to supervisor or project manager's review to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Survey Drafting, Licensed Land Surveyor and Senior Director-Head of Survey Operations to effectively manage workloads and ensure project timelines are met.
  • Communicate effectively, timely, and respectfully via phone, email, and face-to-face to gather information, promote clarification, and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Participate actively in company progress meetings to provide updates and gather necessary information.
  • Communicate potential requirements, request pertinent site information, and raise awareness of unexpected survey challenges to the Senior Director-Head of Survey Operations, Director of Survey Drafting and Licensed Surveyor, and other relevant team members.
  • Utilize site information provided by Licensed Land Surveyor and client as well as information found through online jurisdictional data tools and mapping resources.
  • Maintain accurate project trackers as necessary.
  • Provide feedback and assist in the modification of workflow processes, team tools, and templates to drive efficiency and quality.
  • Contribute positively to team objectives and support drafting tasks with appropriate supervision.
  • Provide other team contributions as requested to support departmental goals.
  • Ensure confidentiality of company information.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience in survey drafting, CAD drafting, or a related technical drafting role.
  • Associate Degree in Drafting, Design, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), or a CAD Drafting Certificate preferred.
  • Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D in an academic or business setting, preferably related to survey drafting.
  • Familiarity with survey industry software such as Trimble Business Center or Pix4D preferred.
  • Foundational knowledge of boundary, topographic, and ALTA surveys.
  • Knowledge of ALTA survey standards and processes preferred.
  • Familiarity with survey field data collection preferred.
  • Ability to interpret utility drawings and incorporate them into survey packages.
  • Ability to prepare survey drawings using field data, photos, redlines, and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and seek guidance when needed.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with supervisors and team members.
  • Ability to work independently under supervision while contributing effectively to a project team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Shift is Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST but must be able to work outside normal business hours when required.
