Job description

Position Summary 

Performs blood specimen collection, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens; will perform CLIA waived laboratory tests, as requested. Will process anatomic pathology and cytology specimens; assists pathologists and histotechs, as needed. Will supervise or lead lab assistant I and II positions, as requested. Completes prioritization, receipt, registration and distribution of specimens. Has responsibility for sendout/reference lab shipping, tracking and billing. Will perform waived testing, as requested. Will assist with processing of anatomic pathology specimens including preparation of microscopic tissue slides, staining and specimen management, as requested.

  • Minimum Requirements:
    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Experience: 3 years of laboratory experience.
    • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Phlebotomy Certification where state law requires.
  • Preferred Requirements:
    • Education: Associates degree in laboratory or medical related field from an accredited institution preferred.
    • Experience: Basic laboratory computer/lab information system experience preferred.
    • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Completion of formal phlebotomy training program and/or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ANP, ASPT or similar preferred.
