Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION - CATH LAB TECH (M5)
Job Summary:
The Cath Lab Tech, under direct supervision, assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease in the Cardiac Cath Lab.
Qualifications:
Education: Completion of a two year approved School of Radiologic Technology
Experience: One year full time experience as a Cath Lab Tech
Licensure: Valid state radiology registration as required by state law
Certification: Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology
Current CPR/BLS Certification
Duties and Responsibilities
The Cath Lab Tech is expected to practice safe procedures and adheres to radiation safety measures under the supervision of the Cardiac Catheterization physician. Specific duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Assures cardiac catheterization lab equipment and room are functional
  • Assists with direct patient care pre and post procedure
  • Prepares and positions patients for invasive heart procedures
  • Assumes responsibilities of scrub and monitor tech during procedures
  • Assumes responsibility of imaging and other radiology functions
  • Monitors gauges, recorder and video screens of computer system during imaging of cardiovascular system
  • Prepares reports of diagnostic procedures for interpretation by physician
Essential Functions:
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Participates in continuing education and learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for continued competence
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Skilled in the operation of cardiac cath lab equipment & portable radiologic equipment
  • Attention to detail
  • Basic understanding of computer technology
  • Perform all duties using proper body mechanics.
  • Frequently move/lift between 50-100 pounds, depending on assignment requirements
  • Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling and reaching to prepare equipment, materials or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Ability to follow directions/instructions from his/her supervisor.
  • Consistent attendance is required to assure that the client facilities' needs and patient needs are met.
  • To comply with all client facilities' policies, procedures and practices

Working Conditions:
The Cath Lab Tech must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases and dusts. Frequent exposures to distressed patients, families or visitors.
