Schedule: Monday through Friday- In Office (Day Shift)

Position Summary:

This entry level role of Lab Coordinator involves independently performing and demonstrating knowledge of medical terminology, carries out basic computer and organization skills. Covey strong communication skills when speaking with clinical staff. Verifies and maintains patient specimen identification. Ensures that accuracy is maintained and patient care remains top priority.

Responsibilities

  • Receives histology and cytology specimen. Enter and accession each specimen through LIS. Verifies and maintains specimen identification at the accessioning stage of processing.
  • Label specimens with case number and forward the case to Histotechnologist and/or Cytologist.
  • Accessing the patient's chart through EMR.
  • Order and process additional testing that is requested on prostate biopsy specimens.
  • Package up and send out and track consult slides/blocks along with the returning report.
  • Track and log specimen rejection/resolution forms.
  • Check-in of slides and proper storage of slides and blocks.
  • Scanning of documents, sending and receiving faxes, answering phone calls, and ordering office supplies for the entire lab. Perform other secretary duties.
  • Assisting the Pathologist when needed and performing other duties as assigned by the Pathologist or Lab Manager.  
  • Accurately maintain specimen samples and requisitions in log sheets.
  • Ensure discrepancies are followed up on according to policy and procedures.
  • Demonstrates troubleshooting and teamwork with clear communication.

Qualifications

  • Experience with medical terminology
  • Lab experience preferred but not required
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate degree or higher a plus.
