Supervisor Support Services
  • Department: Lab Administration
  • Hours: 40.00 per week

Position Summary
The Support Service Supervisor is responsible for the operation and supervision of Specimen Processing, Inpatient Phlebotomy, MH Draw Station, Housecalls, Couriers and Customer Service. Serves as a main resource for problem resolution / concerns to help maintain customer satisfaction and quality of service. Works independently regarding all areas of strategic planning.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Under General Direction:
Personnel schedules - Provide for necessary coverage for all shifts in all areas by preparing schedules of work assignments to ensure that the work is completed in a timely manner.
Employee supervision - Independently and effectively interview, hire, discipline, terminate, and evaluate employees using Hospital and Laboratory guidelines. Provide leadership, guidance, direction, coaching and discipline as appropriate (Coaches, guides, and mentors employees.)
Budget - Ensure that all section activities are carried out in the most cost-effective manner as measured by financial indicators.
Policies and procedures - Review and revise all section policies and procedures and ensure such procedures meet all accreditation guidelines as measured by inspection results. Implements and adheres to departmental policies and procedures to include departmental programs, quality control, quality assurance, and safety.
Reports - Submit all requested management reports, performance evaluations and budget analysis in a timely manner.
Evaluates operations - Evaluate section operations. Develop and implement changes to the operation as necessary with the goal of meeting the needs of the laboratory. Ensure the section is using the latest and most advanced technologies, protocols, and products as appropriate for the operation.
Short and long-range plans - Participates in the formulation, development, and implementation of short and long-range plans and objectives for areas of responsibility and other areas of the department as assigned.
Problems/Judgement - Keep management informed of any problems and issues. Implements any needed changes to Laboratory policies or procedures. Consistently demonstrate good judgment in resolving interpersonal conflict and related employee problems within the section.
Prioritize - Demonstrate the ability to prioritize multiple demands, delegate activities to section employees as appropriate and effectively complete required assignments.
Staff competency - Provides or oversees orientation of new staff members. Ensure all responsible section staff, to include self, maintain a high degree of competency and meet all mandatory section , department, hospital, accrediting organization training and education requirements. Effectively communicate the importance of compliance and safety to phlebotomy team.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with MT (ASCP) certification or equivalent.
2 years supervisory experience
Comprehensive understanding of compliance and safety regulations.
