Job description

Science Laboratory Assistant

Reports to the Director of Science Labs. Full-time, Science Laboratory Assistant.

Examples Of Duties
  • Adheres to all safety procedures and enforces safety regulations within the laboratories
  • Prepares chemicals, media and supplies for laboratory classes
  • Maintains inventory for equipment, glassware, chemicals, live and preserved materials
  • Submits orders in a timely manner
  • Purchases materials and living specimens from local stores
  • Maintains and cleans laboratory glassware, equipment, cabinets, shelves, animal cages, pre? carts and laboratory rooms
  • Maintains and provides care for living specimens/animals
  • Keeps greenhouse in good condition for efficient and safe use
  • Serves as a role model for student workers
  • Reports problems/issues to the Director
  • Interacts with supervisor, faculty and coworkers to ensure efficient function of the laboratories
  • Monitors security of the laboratories and lab equipment
  • Performs related duties as assigned
Typical Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate's degree in Science

Experience:

  • Science Lab experience preferred

Competencies & Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of science equipment, materials and safety practices
  • Computer literacy to include Microsoft Office products
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver's license preferred
  • Ability to walk/stand for up to 7 hours
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb two flights of stairs and ladder/step stool
