Position Summary
The Work Study - Assistant Nursing will provide support to the Director of Clinical Practice, Lab Manager, Lab Staff, Nursing Faculty, and/or students for the Nursing Skills Laboratory.
Education/Experience
Currently enrolled at Stevenson University and in good standing with the university both academically and judicially. Junior or senior level nursing major preferred. Healthcare experience/medical terminology knowledge required. Experience in working in a healthcare environment preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
  • Computer competency required to work in Microsoft Office, Blackboard, TracCloud, and internet applications such as web-based training EHR.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to be creative and resourceful
  • Ability to maintain safety and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to coordinate and implement assignments to meet faculty/student needs.
  • Ability to positively interact with staff, students, and faculty.
  • Knowledge and ability to use medical equipment (e.g. hospital beds, intravenous (IV) pumps, monitors, oxygen delivery systems, SIM pads, Pyxis etc.)
  • Ability to operate a human patient simulator.
  • Serve as a standardized patient for non-invasive simulation experiences.

Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., move, and carry a training mannequin and/or walk or stand for an extended period of time. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires physical abilities consistent with a busy college and/or clinical environment on a campus with buildings, laboratories, or other sites separated by some distance. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Position requires sitting and standing for long periods of time.
Essential Functions
  • Assist with setting up campus skills laboratories for scheduled labs, practice, and skills validation sessions.
  • Assist with breakdown, cleaning, and storage of small equipment and manikins utilized during demonstration, practice, and skills validation sessions.
  • Maintain labs in a clean and orderly manner at all times.
  • Maintain sign-in log and accurate documentation of student open lab hours.
  • Assist in ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies, equipment, and inventory.
  • Assist faculty with debriefing of simulation experiences.
