Job description

Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the part-time (up to 20 hours), non-exempt position of Teacher Assistant in the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC). This position reports directly to the Director of the Early Childhood Education Center and is located in River Forest, IL.

The Teacher Assistant collaborates with the Lead Teacher to support the physical, social, cognitive, spiritual, and emotional development of the children in the Early Childhood Education Center through a nurturing, Christ-centered, and developmentally appropriate environment.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Fosters the development of each child spiritually, socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally
  • Collaborates with head teacher to support curriculum by implementing plans outlined by head teacher as directed
  • Prepares and assists with the physical preparations and clean-up of classroom activities as outlined in each classroom's list of duties
  • Maintains responsibility for the health and safety of the children
  • Promotes the Center's mission/vision statement
  • Maintains appropriate contact with and provides support for parents and families
  • Serves as a center-wide substitute as needed
  • Assists with monitoring and supervising the work and attendance of lab students, observation/methods students, and student teachers as needed
  • Follows standards set by DCFS (Department of Child and Family Services, NLSA (National Lutheran School Association) and NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children)
  • Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS)

Minimum Experience Required:

1 year of experience as an assistant teacher in an Early Childhood Education Center preferred

Education Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting range is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience. Benefit eligibility is dependent on hours worked per week:

  • 20 Hours: Concordia retirement plan enrollment is available to part-time employees. Tuition benefits may also be available.
