How much do computer integrated manufacturing engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 20, 2026, the average yearly pay for computer integrated manufacturing engineer in Missouri is $80,306.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $68,500.00 and $88,200.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does a computer integrated manufacturing engineer do?

A Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing automated manufacturing systems that use computers to control the entire production process. They integrate hardware and software solutions to streamline operations, improve product quality, and increase efficiency. CIM Engineers work with robotics, computer-aided design (CAD), and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems to ensure the seamless flow of information and materials throughout the manufacturing process.

How does a computer integrated manufacturing engineer typically collaborate with other departments during a project?

As a Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) Engineer, you'll frequently work cross-functionally with production, quality assurance, design engineering, and IT teams. Your role involves integrating computer systems with manufacturing processes, so you'll often coordinate with software developers to customize automation solutions and with production managers to ensure smooth implementation on the shop floor. Regular meetings and clear communication with these teams are essential for troubleshooting issues, optimizing workflows, and ensuring that technological upgrades align with manufacturing goals. This collaborative environment provides valuable opportunities to broaden your technical knowledge and build strong professional relationships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a computer integrated manufacturing engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Integrated Manufacturing Engineer, you need a strong background in manufacturing processes, automation, and systems engineering, usually supported by a degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering. Proficiency with CAD/CAM software, PLC programming, robotics, and familiarity with ERP systems and lean manufacturing certifications are typically required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective teamwork are essential soft skills for optimizing production and driving process improvements. These skills are vital for integrating advanced technologies in manufacturing, enhancing efficiency, and maintaining competitive operations.

What is the difference between Computer Integrated Manufacturing Engineer vs Manufacturing Engineer?

AspectComputer Integrated Manufacturing EngineerManufacturing Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related; certifications like CIM or CAD software proficiencyBachelor's in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering; similar certifications often required
Work EnvironmentDesigning, implementing, and optimizing automated manufacturing systems in factories or plantsDeveloping manufacturing processes, improving production efficiency, and troubleshooting in production facilities
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by manufacturing firms focusing on automation and integrated systemsCommon across various manufacturing sectors including automotive, aerospace, and consumer goods

The main difference is that Computer Integrated Manufacturing Engineers focus on designing and managing automated, computer-controlled manufacturing systems, while Manufacturing Engineers concentrate on developing and improving manufacturing processes. Both roles require similar educational backgrounds and certifications but differ in their focus areas within the manufacturing industry.

Is there a demand for computer integrated manufacturing engineers?

Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) engineers are in high demand due to the increasing adoption of automation, robotics, and advanced manufacturing systems across industries. Employers seek professionals skilled in CAD/CAM software, PLC programming, and systems integration to improve production efficiency and reduce costs.

Job description

Berkeley, Missouri 12+ months Up to $103.00/Hour Contract Willing to work any shift

Overview

Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance. US Citizenship Required.

These positions are for both 1st and 2nd shift. Candidates must be open to both shifts and will be assigned one or the other at time of offer.

100% onsite.

Company is seeking Senior Experienced Manufacturing Engineers located in Berkley, MO.

At Company St. Louis, we lead in aerospace innovation and advanced manufacturing for critical defense and commercial platforms. Our facility delivers complex assemblies and systems with a focus on safety, quality, sustainability, and technical excellence.

Position Overview: We are seeking a senior, Level 5 Manufacturing Engineer to provide technical leadership across manufacturing programs and production lines. This role emphasizes enterprise-level manufacturing strategy, process architecture, and organizational influence rather than focus on any single subsystem. The ideal candidate will lead cross-functional initiatives that increase throughput, reduce cost, improve quality, and enable production scaling for complex aerospace products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for manufacturing process development, qualification, and sustainment across multiple programs and product lines.
  • Define and implement manufacturing strategies (automation, lean, DFMA, digital thread) that improve throughput, reduce cost, and enhance quality and reliability.
  • Lead production readiness planning, risk identification and mitigation, and readiness metric definition for program ramps and sustainment.
  • Architect and drive investments in tooling, workstations, automation, and capital equipment; lead business cases and justification for manufacturing improvements.
  • Establish and maintain standardized processes, best practices and controls across production lines; champion scalable, repeatable solutions.
  • Lead complex problem solving and continuous improvement activities (root cause analysis, corrective actions, Six Sigma methodologies).
  • Integrate manufacturing considerations early into product and process decisions; represent manufacturing in design and program reviews.
  • Mentor, develop and provide technical oversight to engineering teams; review and approve engineering deliverables, installation plans, and process documentation.
  • Use data analytics, simulation and model-based approaches to validate processes, balance flow, and support capacity planning.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams (design, quality, supply chain, production, industrial engineering) and external partners to deliver on schedule and on budget.

12+ months โ€” possible extension and possible FTE opportunity.

Requirements Basic Qualifications (Required)
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 12+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelorโ€™s degree OR an equivalent combination of work-related experience and technical education.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace or related engineering discipline.
  • 15+ years of progressive manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace/defense or other complex, high-reliability manufacturing environments.
  • Strong experience with process qualification, lean manufacturing, automation/robotics, and digital manufacturing tools.
  • Demonstrated capability in project and program leadership, including schedule, budget and stakeholder management.
  • Experience with manufacturing engineering and factory tools such as CREO, CATIA, MES, DELMIA, FlexSim, ProModel, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution System Common Image (MESci) and model-based enterprise practices (MBD/MBE).
  • Experience leading supplier integration, qualification and production transfers.
  • Proven track record of mentoring engineers and reviewing/approving engineering work products.
  • Certifications or training in Lean, Six Sigma, systems engineering or project management (e.g., PMP, Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt) are a plus.

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
