Could you be the full-time Installation Welding Specialist in Whitby, ON we're looking for?


Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your welding and installation expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You'll work alongside skilled, collaborative, and safety-focused teammates.

You'll play a key role in ensuring the structural integrity and safety compliance of our onboard installation projects. Day-to-day, you'll work closely with teams across the business (engineering, installation, and safety teams), perform high-quality welding tasks, and contribute to the timely execution of installation schedules while supporting safety and quality initiatives.

You'll specifically take care of performing stick welding (SMAW) on various metals, but also undertake additional tasks such as mechanical installations, retrofits, and process improvement initiatives.

We'll look to you for:

  • Performing high-quality welding and fabrication tasks to support onboard installation projects

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and welding specifications

  • Preparing materials and surfaces for welding by cleaning, cutting, and grinding

  • Ensuring proper use, control, and maintenance of welding machinery and tools

  • Inspecting welds for accuracy and quality, ensuring compliance with safety and engineering standards

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to align welding tasks with project timelines

  • Supporting non-welding tasks such as mechanical installations, retrofits, and process improvements

  • Engaging in training and certification programs to enhance your welding expertise

  • Contributing to safety culture through risk documentation and mitigation efforts

  • Supporting tool management, lean manufacturing, and 5S initiatives

  • Diploma or certification in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent

  • Experience or understanding of welding systems for railway, transit, or heavy vehicles

  • Knowledge of technical drawings, welding symbols, and metalworking processes

  • Familiarity with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and PPE usage

  • A welding certification (e.g., CWB or AWS) or willingness to obtain one, ability to maintain welding certification during employment is a must

  • Experience with lean manufacturing, Kaizen, or continuous improvement methodologies

  • Ability to work in dynamic environments, including confined spaces or elevated areas

  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules, environments, and technical requirements.
  • Ability to handle and carry tools, bend, kneel, fit for duty, 
  • Strong adaptability, communication, and collaboration skills

  • Knowledge of ASME Code for Pressure Piping, B31.3 is desirable
  • Familiarity with standards such as AAR, AWS D15.1, EN12663, and IEC 61373, IEC 60974-14 is an asset

The expected compensation for this role is $65,000 - $80,000 CAD per year, plus benefits and eligibility for an annual performance bonus. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience, and internal equity.
