Job description

Talladega College invites applications for the tenure track position of Chair of Computer Science and Assistant Professor beginning August 2026. This tenure track position reports to the Dean of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for leadership in coordinating all aspects of the academic program such as degree requirements, curricular offerings and improvements, catalog, class scheduling and faculty teaching assignments.
  • Teaching responsibilities include innovative and engaging use of technology for in person, online or hybrid instruction.
  • Course scheduling that serves the needs of the program and students.
  • Review and revise department's catalog information.
  • Coordinate student advising and mentoring.
  • Provide department reports and documentation for student and program learning outcomes.
  • Recruitment of students and monitoring of department academic advisement.
  • Recruit, interview, train, mentor, supervise and evaluate department faculty.
  • Oversee curriculum development and revisions.
  • Facilitate and encourage grants and contracts from extramural sources.
  • Provide oversight of department budget, facilities and equipment management.
  • Foster an atmosphere of collegiality.
  • Actively serve on college committees.
  • Meet established deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean or Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity or a closely related discipline with at least 18 graduate hours in the computer science teaching discipline
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated academic leadership.
  • Successful teaching experience at the college level is preferred.
  • Candidate with teaching expertise in all core computer science topics are sought with preference given to Programming, Algorithms and Data Structures, Computer Architecture, Networking Systems Programming, Operating Systems, Web-based Application Development and Software Engineering.
  • Documented evidence of teaching, scholarship and service with an ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • A commitment to student learning with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of a collaborative and inclusive approach to working with colleagues and students, promoting diversity and equity.
