Job description

Job Summary:
The City of Fate is seeking an IT System Administrator to serve as the primary technical support resource for the organization. This role involves maintaining and supporting the Cityโ€™s core IT infrastructure, managing Help Desk inquiries, and providing technical assistance to ensure reliable and secure technology services across all departments.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Maintains and administers City data centers, ensuring all servers are operating correctly and all software/hardware patches are installed. This includes the installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrades of physical servers, virtual servers, storage area networks, and Network Operating Systems; to include server imaging and configuration of new systems.
โ€ข Maintains and administers the Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP infrastructure, Windows Server Update Services, and all other infrastructure systems.
โ€ข Maintains and administers the City-Wide phone system, configuring new handsets and maintaining all required functions.
โ€ข Maintains and administers the Cityโ€™s virtual server environment and provide purchase recommendations to the IT Manager for hardware and software needs.
โ€ข Researches and make recommendations for technological improvements and upgrades. Assists the IT Manager with technological long-range and short-range planning.
โ€ข Maintains and enforces all aspects of security and confidentiality of records and information.
โ€ข Independently manages and maintains day-to-day Help Desk operations; provides technical assistance via telephone and/or onsite.
โ€ข Assists City staff or City contractors, encountering computer/software issues, by providing guidance in proper usage and/or resolving technical problems.
โ€ข Assist City staff or City contractors with problems, by perceptive questioning, using diagnostic software, or listening to procedures followed by users to determine source of problem.
โ€ข Receives phone calls or electronic messages from users having problems using computer software and hardware, or having trouble using specific software such as graphics, database, printing, word processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail, and operating systems.
โ€ข Assists with the daily operation of information systems, software installation, configuration and installation of all new computer equipment, general computer repair, etc.
โ€ข Performs duties associated with set-up, configuration and installation of system software products and peripherals, including printers, monitors, network devices, and other communications equipment.
โ€ข Manages all desktops to ensure each desktop is operating correctly and all software/hardware patches are installed.
โ€ข Provides network support as needed, including repair and installation of network related cabling; to include clean and organized patch panel and cable management work.
โ€ข Aids in fostering cooperation and collaboration with other city departments.
โ€ข Acts as the Project Manager for assigned Information Technology projects for both hardware and software.
โ€ข May be required to occasionally work after hours or weekends.
โ€ข Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
โ€ข Bachelorโ€™s degree in related field with a minimum five (5) years of experience in a related field; or Associate degree with a minimum ten (10) years of experience in a related field.
โ€ข Four (4) years of demonstrated experience in both network and desktop operating systems support work; installing, and repairing equipment.
โ€ข Must be able to pass FBI criminal background fingerprint check and have the ability to comply with state and federal requirements for criminal justice information security standards.
โ€ข Possession of a valid Texas driverโ€™s license.
โ€ข Knowledge of multiple software applications and operating systems, including, but not limited to: Microsoft desktop and server Operating Systems, Microsoft Networking, TCP/IP, Microsoft Office Suite, Exchange/Outlook E-Mail (server/client), Microsoft Group Policy Management, Hypervisor, SAN management.
โ€ข Knowledge of multiple hardware components including workstations, servers, SAN, handheld devices, printers, scanners, and wireless devices.
โ€ข Knowledge of local area and wide area network administration, telephone, and other communications systems support.
โ€ข Ability to perceptively question users, diagnose and troubleshoot software and hardware problems.
โ€ข Ability to simultaneously perform a variety of technical and administrative functions and maintains a quality work product.
โ€ข Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
โ€ข Ability to serve other City departments in a diplomatic and professional manner, exercising good emotional control; must have good interpersonal skills.
โ€ข Ability to work with detailed information for sustained periods of time.
โ€ข Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
โ€ข Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city staff and vendors.
โ€ข Skill in identifying and resolving issues, concerns and needs.
โ€ข Skill in problem solving including analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, and consequences of proposed actions and implementing recommendations in support of goals.
Preferred:
โ€ข MCDST / MCSA / MCSE or greater preferred.
โ€ข Prior technical experience within a municipal government preferred.
โ€ข Certification in either AWS or Azure Cloud Architect Technologies; with Comp TIA A+, N+, Security+, and Microsoft 365 Certified is helpful.
