Job description

The Odessa College Director of Information Systems provides strategic leadership in planning, organizing, and managing information systems, support services, and technology programs to ensure effective and efficient operations across the institution. The position oversees and supervises information services personnel, fostering a high-performing team through guidance, accountability, and professional development. In this role, the position provides leadership for the overall administration of the College’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, including strategic planning, budgeting, programming, technical support, purchasing, and system maintenance. The position also collaborates with institutional leadership to align technology initiatives with organizational goals, enhance data integrity and security, and support data-driven decision-making.

Specific Position Duties
  • Maintains current, in-depth knowledge of Colleague and other administrative and enterprise software systems used at Odessa College, ensuring optimal functionality and alignment with institutional needs.
  • Collaborates with the Vice President to design, implement, and continuously improve campus-wide database policies, procedures, and best practices that support data integrity, security, and compliance.
  • Supervises and provides leadership to a team of programmers, systems analysts, and support personnel, including assigning responsibilities, evaluating performance, and supporting professional development.
  • Communicates effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators regarding the implementation, training, and functionality of Colleague and related software systems, ensuring users are well-informed and supported.
  • Develops and coordinates training initiatives and resources to enhance user proficiency and promote effective utilization of institutional systems across the college.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and proactively resolves issues related to Colleague and associated databases, implementing solutions that minimize disruption and improve system performance.
  • Maintains and oversees the integrity, security, and reliability of the College’s central information systems, including the Colleague database and related applications.
  • Manages and updates the Colleague user database, ensuring appropriate access levels, data accuracy, and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Works collaboratively with Information Technology and other departments to support strategic initiatives, reporting needs, and data-driven decision-making across Odessa College.
  • Supports institutional effectiveness by ensuring data systems align with the College’s mission to improve student success and operational efficiency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of departmental and institutional goals.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of five (5) years of database programming experience in commercial environments.
  • Proven track record of excellent customer service.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting schedule and budget guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and guidance to staff.
  • Ability to work effectively with users and provide training and project management across various initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to complete projects and tasks.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Minimum of an associate degree in computer information systems or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Work Hours

Normal college hours plus nights and weekends and holidays as needed.
