Summary

This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Faculty - Networking and Cybersecurity who will be all-in on our mission and who is responsible to prepare and deliver Computer Information Systems Networking and Cybersecurity coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to success, understanding of culturally responsive teaching, and knowledge of the teaching field. Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, laboratory, tech-supported, and/or online courses and in immediate preparation for respective courses; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; and preparing teaching materials.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or Computer-Based Information Systems (e.g., management, decision, data-processing).
Preferred: Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or Computer-Based Information Systems (e.g., management, decision, data-processing).
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Three (3) years of work experience in Networking or Cybersecurity position.
Preferred: One (1) year of teaching experience at the college level.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Exhibit effective teaching in Networking and Cybersecurity courses, including but not limited to: Cisco CCNA (Routing & Switching), Network Fundamentals, Switching & Wireless, Network Security, Firewalls, Ethical Hacking, Linux/Unix, Cloud Fundamentals, Cyber Defense, and Security+ concepts.
  • Deliver instruction across multiple modalities: classroom, hands-on lab, online, hybrid, and tech-supported environments.
  • Plan, develop, and present organized, engaging learning activities consistent with approved course outcomes and industry standards.
  • Maintain competence in the use of instructional technologies including LMS platforms, virtualization tools, security labs (e.g., Cisco Packet Tracer, Kali, Linux VMware), and simulation environments.
  • Prepare syllabi, assessments, and course materials aligned with catalog descriptions and workforce expectations.
  • Teach day, evening, online, Innovation Outpost, and dual credit courses as needed.
  • Demonstrate commitment to student success by promoting academic rigor, timely feedback, and individualized support.
  • Maintain required office hours for tutoring, advising, and student mentoring.
  • Assist in student placement, internships, and industry engagement related to networking and cybersecurity career pathways.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment that supports non-traditional students, first-generation learners, and students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with CIS leadership and faculty to develop, revise, and align courses with industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, CySA+, Server+, AZ-900, CCNA, etc.
  • Select textbooks, lab environments, and learning materials in collaboration with the Program Coordinator.
  • Conduct regular assessments of course effectiveness and participate in program evaluation and improvement cycles.
  • Integrate emerging technologies-including cloud security, wireless security, automation, and SOC practices-into the curriculum.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence through training, certifications, continuing education, and industry engagement.
  • Participate in college-wide professional development, General Assembly, Data Summits, CTL workshops, and required faculty training.
  • Attend briefings on policies, advising, registration, and instructional updates.
  • Participate in AC recruiting events, BLC meetings, campus initiatives, and community outreach supporting CIS programs.
  • Complete all administrative tasks (attendance, grading, reporting, evaluations) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Engage in departmental, divisional, and college meetings and committees as assigned.
  • Contribute to a culture of safety and proper usage of networking and cybersecurity lab equipment, ensuring compliance with best practices.
  • Support ongoing development and continuous improvement of CIS pathways, including the Networking/Cybersecurity AAS and stacked certificates.
  • Provide support for student organizations, competitions, outreach events, and Innovation Outpost activities.
  • Perform related duties as required by the Program Coordinator, Department Chair, Dean, or VPAA.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting or movement of materials and equipment up to twenty-five (25) pounds as needed.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary).
Work Environment: This position operates in a classroom, lab or professional office environment. This position uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Must be adaptable to teaching in-person, hybrid, or online formats. Software used may include Microsoft Office, Colleague, learning management systems, and educational technology tools.
