Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The CAD Engineer supports the engineering and design team by creating detailed 3D CAD models of parts and assemblies from sketches, drawings, and verbal descriptions. This role provides CAD modeling and documentation support to the Tooling Shop, Rigging and Testing Shop, along with Base Camp or Plant Engineering functions in the development of marine products.
The CAD Engineer applies established engineering principles, approved design intent, instructions, and predefined guidelines to perform assigned modeling and documentation tasks in accordance with company CAD standards within the CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE product data management environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Creates parametric surface models of new products and product families using CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE.
  • Produces 3D printed prototype parts for fit check and evaluation activities.
  • Adheres to company 3D modeling standards and best practices.
  • Collaborates with tooling technicians, designers, and engineers to support timely new product development.
  • Troubleshoots CAD-related issues associated with design and tooling concepts.
  • Creates and maintains complete CAD documentation for new product development efforts using CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE PLM.
  • Participates in design for manufacturability activities to support efficiency and quality goals.
  • Supports geometric data acquisition activities using scanners and probes.
  • Supports verification of conformance to applicable marine manufacturing compliance standards.
  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum Degree Required: Associate Degree
  • Preferred Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering Technology, or Associate of Science in Design or Drafting Technology or related field (if applicable)
  • Years of experience: 1-3+ years of relevant CAD/design experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
  • Strong understanding of CATIA V5 or 3DEXPERIENCE Generative Shape Design, Part Design, and Assembly Design workbenches.
  • Experience translating 2D sketches and industrial design concepts into high-quality 3D CAD surface and solid models.
  • Ability to apply DFM and DFA principles and manufacturing requirements to component designs.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
  • Experience working within PDM or PLM systems and managing revisions and part lifecycles.
  • Understanding of additive and subtractive manufacturing processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimal travel required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regularly sits and works on a computer.
Occasionally stands, walks, or lifts up to 50 lbs.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:
Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.
