Job description

ARK is looking for a top-notch Network Technician. Do you have exceptional networking skills and experience with or the desire to learn fire alarm, security, and other low voltage systems? If so, this may be the perfect role for you.
This position is responsible for installing, wiring, troubleshooting, programming and maintaining low voltage and computer and network based low voltage electronic systems to include fire, security, card access, door entry, paging/sound, telecommunication, video and other electronic systems as required. Not considered your typical IT position! You will not be at a computer everyday in an office! The position requires going out to active construction sites and customer interactions while integrating new hardwire into their existing or new IT systems.
  • Diagnoses equipment failures with computer, networks and associated systems for the purpose of identifying needed repairs and/or ensuring equipment is in proper working order.
  • Installs computer hardware, network switches, routers, peripherals, security equipment, cameras, application software, etc for the purpose of providing a complete functional system tailored to a customer's needs and overall specific site parameters.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair low voltage system building wiring.
  • Ability to install, maintain, configure, troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software and network related problems associated with Microsoft and Linux based operating systems.
  • Ability to work with other company's IT department staff to interface computer based solutions offered by ARK.
  • Ability to interface with vendors and manufacturer's representatives to resolve operating systems issues. Analyzes bugs in systems and application software: researches and tests possible solutions; implements solutions.
  • Writes scripts, files and programs utilizing numerous application programs to enhance, and provide proper end user results as required for a completely functional system.

Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Knowledge of IP Networking
  • General computing and networking knowledge.
  • Ability to use Microsoft office (outlook, word, excel)
  • Basic IP addressing knowledge
  • Some basic knowledge of databases preferred but not required.
  • Must have customer relations experience and skills.
  • Field electronic practical experience required.
  • Good communication skills are necessary.
  • Must have a positive and respectful attitude and maintain good working relationships with management staff and employees.
  • Must maintain good driving record (insurable through our insurance carrier) for driving to/from job sites.
  • Ability to obtain Maryland and Virginia security technician license.

Computer Equipment and Software Requirements:
Test equipment, communications equipment, drills and other hand tools. Laptop computer, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PC Anywhere, system application software, etc.
Education and Experience Required:
  • Requires an AA degree in electronics, computer sciences or equivalent technical school supplemented with 3-5 years of related industry experience.
  • COMPTIA A+ certification
  • Network+ certification
  • COMPTIA Linux + or equivalent certification
  • Microsoft (MCP) Microsoft Certified Professional)
  • LINUX certifications
  • Demonstrated experience implementing local area networks to include wireless technology using multi-operating systems and platforms.
  • Network and computer trouble-shooting and problem solving skills required, including knowledge of networking, theory, principles and practices. Specific knowledge of TCP/IP and Windows Server.
  • Mechanical ability to work with locks and mechanical devices.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications systems is helpful.
