Job description

Job Title: Engineer I - Sr. (Utility)
PS Job Title: Engineer II (Utility)
Work Place Flexibility: Onsite

Note: This is an onsite position working 5 days a week in the office, based out of our offices in New Orleans, LA. The selected candidate will be placed as an Engineer I, II, III or Sr. depending on the experience of the candidate. If the selected candidate is outside the area, they will be expected to relocate for this opportunity. Relocation assistance is not available for this posting.
Job Summary/Purpose
Responsible for technical engineering activities within an Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) Engineering Lab. General AMI Lab responsibilities include development and ownership of technology strategies, processes, and procedures for: electric meters and all devices with integrated communications devices (Network Interface Cards -NICs or Interface Management Units - IMUs); communication network Access Points (APs) and Relays; as well as legacy electric meters.
Additionally, the AMI Engineering team will be responsible for an electric meter "farm" and working closely with all stakeholders, including but not limited to: Entergy's Operating Companies; AMI Ops Center (AMOC); Operating Company regulatory agencies; etc.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance within an AMI Engineering Lab.
  • Maintain Meter Calibration Standards as per applicable Public Utility Commission (PUC) Standards/requirements.
  • Create and update lab procedures for various lab processes related to meters and communication equipment.
  • Develop technical understanding to create and update meter testing programs using applications such as the WECO 2150 Test System.
  • Conduct sample testing of new incoming meter stock or existing meter population as applicable
  • Oversee programming of meters for different metering services or required features, including functions such as Delivered/Received power usage for distributed generation. (Solar, Wind, Biofuels, etc.).
  • Maintain database of meter test results using management software as applicable.
  • Manage and maintain meter inventory as well as RMA processing.
  • Qualification and vetting of firmware, manufacturing changes, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSMinimum education required of the position
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Chemical, Industrial) from four-year accredited institution.
  • Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered.

Minimum experience required of the position
  • Engineer I: 0+ years of relevant experience
  • Engineer II: 2+ years of relevant experience (1year with a M.S.)
  • Engineer III: 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Senior Engineer: 6+ years of relevant experience (5+ years with PE)

Preferred experience:
  • Hands-on experience using testing equipment I.E.: Multi-meter, Digital Scope, digital calibration tools, etc.
  • Programing experience such as Python, C++ or microcontroller programming languages.
  • Networking experience such as configuring communication hardware and knowledge about wireless communication protocol, cyber security and data routing.
  • Knowledge of AMI meters or experience with metering standards.
