Job description

Overview: We are excited to announce an internal opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineering Technician in Alexandria, MN. The Manufacturing Engineering Technician is responsible for supporting and improving manufacturing operations through process development, engineering change management, prototype support, and production documentation.

This role manages Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) originating from manufacturing, engineering, and customer-driven requirements while helping ensure efficient, accurate, and repeatable production processes. The Manufacturing Engineering Technician II works closely with production personnel, engineering teams, and CAD technicians to support assembly operations, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, improve processes, and maintain accurate mechanical drawings and electrical schematics. This role also assists in the development and support of assembly and test fixtures, implementation of Lean Manufacturing initiatives, maintenance of ERP system data, and support of new product introduction activities.

With advanced technical knowledge and manufacturing experience, the Manufacturing Engineering Technician serves as a subject matter expert, providing guidance, technical support, and oversight for manufacturing projects, equipment, and process improvements.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) from manufacturing, engineering, and customer-driven requests.
  • Support prototype development, assembly, testing, and implementation into production.
  • Assist in the design, creation, and support of assembly and test fixtures and procedures for hydraulic manifold manufacturing.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing documentation, work instructions, and production processes.
  • Validate labor estimates by conducting time studies and evaluating manufacturing processes.
  • Create, maintain, and audit preventative maintenance schedules for manufacturing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment failures, including tools, machines, fixtures, and automated systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve product quality, manufacturability, and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in cost reduction, continuous improvement, and Lean Manufacturing initiatives throughout the organization.
  • Support ERP system accuracy and manufacturing data maintenance.
  • Provide technical guidance and subject matter expertise for manufacturing processes and projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering Technology (or related field) and 3–5 years of experience in a similar manufacturing or engineering support role; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience generating and maintaining assembly procedures, work instructions, and quality documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on machining experience with CNC equipment preferred.
  • Proficiency with CAD software for creating, modifying, and interpreting mechanical drawings and production documentation.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot mechanical drawings, blueprints, and electrical schematics.
  • Experience with FANUC robotic systems, including basic troubleshooting, operation, programming, or integration in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing manufacturing equipment, tools, fixtures, and production machinery preferred.
  • Experience creating or updating assembly and test fixtures preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards and quality compliance requirements preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Self-directed with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
