POSITION SPECIFICS

The Mechanical Systems & Design Department under the Engineering Systems Research and Development Division within the Undersea Systems Office (USO) of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking a motivated and talented Engineering Technologist whose primary tasking will be to design, build, and test mechanical hardware for undersea applications. Employees in this position will work directly with engineers throughout the product lifecycle to create 3D models and associated drawings, perform basic engineering calculations, procure the necessary hardware, and assemble and test hardware/systems.

ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.

You Will:

  • Create 3D models in Siemens NX

  • Create detailed drawings of components and assemblies

  • Perform tolerance stacks and apply appropriate tolerancing and GD&T

  • Develop assembly and test procedures

  • Assemble and test hardware

  • Support field testing

Additional responsibilities for higher level positions:

  • Collaborate with project leadership with the conceptual design of complex electromechanical systems and subsystems

  • Collaborate with engineering staff in developing, defining, and/or deriving requirements to support the design of engineering products

Required skills/experiences include:

  • 3D CAD design and engineering drawing development (Siemens NX preferred)

  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings

  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Perform basic engineering calculations

  • Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills

  • Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher and may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility, if required
