Senior Mechanical Engineering Technologist

Location: New Liskeard, Northern Ontario
Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent

Our New Liskeard office is home to a closeknit team of engineers, project managers, technologists, technicians, CAD specialists, surveyors, and support staff. With approximately 30+ professionals on-site, we offer the technical depth of a larger firm with the collaboration and flexibility of a regional office.

Position Overview

EXP is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineering Technologist (CET) to support mechanical design, drafting, field services, and project coordination on infrastructure and industrial projects. This role is ideal for an experienced technologist who enjoys hands-on involvement, technical leadership, and working closely with engineers, clients, and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Mechanical Engineering Technologist, you will:

  • Create and review detailed mechanical drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Inventor

  • Develop technical specifications and perform basic engineering calculations (loads, tolerances, thermal, stress) within technologist scope

  • Coordinate with mechanical engineers, contractors, vendors, and fabrication teams

  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including BOMs, schematics, test reports, and manuals

  • Support prototype development, testing, and design revisions

  • Conduct field inspections, quality checks, and compliance reviews with applicable codes and standards

  • Provide on-site support for installations, commissioning, troubleshooting, and equipment assessments

  • Mentor junior technologists and technicians, providing technical guidance and leadership

  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining clear communication with clients and internal teams

  • Apply expertise in mechanical systems, including: 

    • HVAC systems

    • Fluid and piping systems

    • Rotating equipment

    • Manufacturing and fabrication processes

    • QA/QC practices

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical engineering technology and infrastructure or industrial projects, including:

  • Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma

  • CET certification or equivalent (OACETT membership preferred)

  • Proven experience in mechanical design and multidisciplinary projects

  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software: 

    • SolidWorks

    • AutoCAD

    • Inventor

    • Revit considered an asset

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, HVAC, fluid systems, and rotating equipment

  • Ability to perform basic engineering calculations and interpret design codes and standards

  • Experience with QA/QC, fabrication, and construction environments

  • Hands-on experience with installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting

  • Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills

  • Experience coordinating vendors, contractors, and project schedules

  • Field experience including inspections, measurements, and equipment assessments
