Job description

Title: Junior Engineering Technician

Location: Schaumburg, Illinois - onsite

Type: Contract to hire

Rate: $23-$28/hr W2


Our client in Schaumburg, Illinois is seeking an Engineering Technician to join their team on a contract to hire basis! The Engineering Technician will be responsible for testing and generating test reports for electromechanical, electrical, and electronic devices. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual who can apply creative yet critical thinking skills to solve complex problems and has solid interpersonal and communication skills to communicate issues to other team members and self-manage.


Basics Requirements:

  • Open to entry level, 0-1 years of experience:
  • Associate's degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Applied Science, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Looking for a hands-on, mechanically inclined problem solver with strong electronics fundamentals and excellent communication skills.
  • Ideal candidates enjoy building, troubleshooting, and creating (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, robotics, DIY projects, automotive diagnostics, woodworking, etc.). Experience with PCB troubleshooting, environmental testing, firmware/software validation, or test fixtures is a plus but not required.


Responsibilities:

  • Support the Test Engineering team throughout the new product development lifecycle, from prototype through product launch.
  • Perform electronics testing, PCB troubleshooting, firmware/software validation, and embedded systems testing.
  • Execute mechanical and environmental testing, including thermal, humidity, IPX water, drop, and impact testing.
  • Build, wire, and modify custom test fixtures to support product validation.
  • Collect and analyze test data, generate reports, document findings, and create Jira tickets for software defects.
  • Assist with regulatory and pre-compliance testing (UL/FCC) as needed.
  • Collaborate daily with Test, Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, and Software Engineers, Product Development, and the Model Shop.
  • Approximately 50% of the role is mechanical/environmental testing and 50% is electronics, firmware, and software validation
