Job description

Toyota Automated Logistics is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to join their team for Summer 2027.
The Software Engineer Intern will work with Toyota Automated Logistics' R&D team in Indianapolis, IN to help produce industry leading Autonomous Vehicle and Robotic solutions for the Material Handling Industry. With a current team size of approximately 40 members, the Indianapolis R&D team is composed of a group of industry leading experts with cross-discipline skillsets and backgrounds. The Software Engineer Intern will work alongside like-minded engineers in an Agile development environment and will have the opportunity to engage in every stage of the R&D process. This includes research, innovation, design, and prototype development to successfully bring new products to market.
The Software Engineer Intern will work alongside a dedicated mentor to assist in development of our core software architecture as well as applied software solutions. This position will have ample opportunity to learn from team members, as well as to have ownership of focused projects and designs.
Job Functions
  • Work alongside dedicated mentor on Intern projects
  • Develop and test software for Autonomous Vehicles and Robots
  • Participate in design reviews and code reviews
  • Assist in testing of live Autonomous Vehicles and Robots
  • Engage in Agile development processes to plan sprints and team workloads
  • Follow GitFlow processes for robust version control

Travel Requirements
  • 5% overnight travel (Travel expenses paid by Toyota Automated Logistic)
  • Travel is for training purposes

Preferred Skills and Required Qualifications
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA long term without sponsorship.
  • Undergrad or Graduate Program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar field
  • C++ and Python experience
  • Experience with Git version control
  • Comfortable using and developing in a Linux (Ubuntu) OS environment
  • ROS (Robot Operating System) familiarity a plus
  • Experience with hardware (microcontrollers, motor control, sensors, etc) a plus
