Job description

What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking a Year Round - Technical Undergraduate Intern to join our dynamic team!
On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Collaborate with team members responding to national security needs
  • Work with partner organizations across a variety of areas allowing you to learn more about Sandia and its Mission
  • Work very closely with the other members of the department by joining a high functioning team within the Technical Security Systems (TSS) department which consists of a Security Operations Center (SOC) and is the central communications hub of the security systems. The second area entails field operations which consists of design, installation, maintenance and testing on-site security and surveillance hardware. The third area researches the requirements and tests components and systems to assure that they meet strict standards and guidelines.
  • Team with all members of the organization to learn and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the site electronic security system, computer network/ infrastructure, engineering drawings, and project management

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range
At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Qualifications We Require
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited undergraduate program
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

Note: If you have not earned a HS diploma or equivalent, please apply to a high school intern position.
Qualifications We Desire
  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer/ Information Systems Type Major, or related field
  • Excellent teaming and communication skills
  • Career interests in Safeguards and Security at a national laboratory
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.

About Our Team
The Technical Security Systems (TSS) department at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) provides a secure, robust, and sustainable electronic security system in support of Sandia's critical missions. The department is responsible for sustaining this security system at an acceptable level that meets Department of Energy (DOE) requirements. This is achieved by implementing high level standards and configuration control to the security systems followed by structured, preventive, and corrective maintenance processes. The TSS department interfaces and integrates with other departments within the Safeguards and Security Center which include Physical Security, Personnel Security, and the Protective Force. In addition to supporting the electronic security systems at SNL-NM, TSS provides program and technical support to several remote sites within the US.

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
