Job description

Education and Experience Required:
  • High school Diploma or equivalent
  • Fiber Splicer Cert, preferred
  • At least 1 year of fiber splicer experience
  • Need to be comfortable with climbing heights
  • Vocational or Apprenticeship training preferred

Essential Functions
  • Read and interpret work orders, specifications, and engineering drawings and/or cut sheets to determine work to be done in sequence of tasks.
  • Repair or splice in new lines as needed to complete the testing and certification of the project.
  • Install all passive and active devices, pedestals, and vaults and fiber splice cases required to house CAT-V equipment per customer requirements.
  • Test fiber lines for balanced signal between points-continuity and fault.
  • Read and understand site plans, maps, diagrams, designs, and prints needed to support project(s).
  • Optimize new Nodes and splice in node splits to reduce capacity.
  • Ability to safely utilize bucket trucks or climb utility poles to place cables on poles per system design.
  • Complete production sheets, verify proper levels after activation, and adjust and troubleshoot as necessary.
  • Ensure proper safety techniques and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Make adjustments on switches, relays, and other electrical control devices for maximum operating efficiency.
  • Understand and adhere to company safety protocols and policies
  • Use and understand automated dispatch equipment (i.e., handheld terminals), and appropriate test equipment to verify proper installation and/or repair
  • The Fiber Optic Technician will frequently work in cold or hot temperatures and at heights over 15 feet
  • The Fiber Optic Technician will also work near power lines and electricity, as well as work and travel in inclement weather

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of OSHA safety guidelines and practical use of these guidelines as well as all other applicable safety laws and policies
  • Basic troubleshooting experience preferred
  • Technical knowledge of wireless telecommunications products preferred
  • Willingness to take on and learn new tasks, as needed
  • Ability to multi-task in a demanding environment
  • Experience in tower-rigging preferred
  • Cable installation, termination, and testing
  • Strong Construction & Fabrication, a plus
  • Culture of Safety & PPE
  • Strong Mathematical Ability
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Effective and professional written and oral communication skills

Requirements
Successful candidates must:
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Possess active valid Driver's License
  • Pass a pre-employment DOT drug & alcohol screening with on-going program participation
  • Pass fitness testing
  • Pass Background Check
  • Be able to fulfill rotational assignments by travel approximately 75%-100%
