JOB POSITION: Research Assistant Emerging Technician
DEPARTMENT: Computer Science
DATE Available: Immediately
ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality 1500 management, leadership or research grants, this student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.
The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.
SUMMARY: Currently searching for Research Assistants in Emerging Technology at the PolySec Cyber Lab, Computer Science, Cal Poly Pomona.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
The research assistant will provide technical assistance to PolySec lab projects using security, AI and machine learning to emerging technologies such as computational neuroscience and physiology, virtual and augmented reality, self-driving cars, robot dogs, UAV and eVTOLs, software defined radio, satellite communication, and 5G Networks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering/Computer Science/CIS background with skillsets in Cyber Security, Machine Learning and Signal Processing.
  • Comfortable working with new technology and open-source devices.
  • Excellent English verbal communication and writing skills
  • Responsible and dependable
  • Ability to work well with various people including students, faculty, staff, and high-level administrators
  • Motivated, innovative, and shows initiative

PREFERRED:
  • Prior undergraduate research and peer mentoring experience.
