Position Summary:
This application will only be considered for the term selected on page one and should be submitted directly to the department that has the desired Graduate Assistant position. A new application form must be submitted for each new period that an assistantship is desired.
The Master and Specialist assistantships will have a maximum time limit of five semesters. An exception is made for students admitted based on a Bachelor's Degree rather than a Master's Degree to the Ed.S. in Psychology and Counseling; these students will have a maximum time limit of eight semesters. Doctoral assistantships will have a maximum time limit of eight semesters. Two summer terms of five weeks each will count as one semester in all programs.
Some departments may request additional information such as a resume and/or a potential work schedule. Please contact the department directly to see if they require the submission of any additional documentation with the GA Application.
Master Graduate Assistants will receive instate tuition, and Doctoral Graduate Assistants receive a full tuition waiver. The Credit Hour and GPA requirement must be met, and a waiver form must be filled out in Student Accounts in order to receive the appropriate tuition adjustment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Graduate Research Assistants support faculty-led scholarly or creative research while contributing to the career training of the student. General duties of a GRA include conducting literature reviews, collecting and analyzing data, assisting with compliance and grant activities, and contributing to research dissemination, while receiving mentored professional training aligned with their graduate education. Ideally, their job duties would put them on track to share authorship in faculty-led research products. GRA duties must be primarily research-related and not mainly clerical, personal, or teaching-focused. GRAs typically work within defined effort levels (no more than 20 hours per week). Research assistants work under the supervision of a faculty advisor or PI and are not independently responsible for project outcomes. Typical roles for GRAs fall within the following broad categories:
1. Research Activities (Core Responsibility)
2. Data Collection, Management, and Analysis
3. Compliance, Ethics, and Research Administration
4. Writing, Documentation, and Dissemination
5. Collaboration and Project Support
6. Professional Development and Training
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Strong computer skills and good oral and written communication skills. Ability to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks and adhere to assigned work schedule.
General Days/Hours:
Graduate Assistants are expected to work an average of 20 hours a week.
