Job Description

KPFF Seattle's Civil Team designs sites that enable land to be developed for commercial, residential, institutional, and recreational purposes. We also design critical public and private infrastructure systems that support the built and natural environments, including district energy, regional storm drainage facilities, utility grids, and trails. We support projects ranging from feasibility evaluations and master planning to design, permitting, and construction. Our group works in close collaboration with owners, architects, landscape architects, and other engineering disciplines to build a more sustainable, resilient, and thriving community. 

Located in downtown Seattle, our Civil Engineering team is seeking a Civil CAD Drafter/Technician. This position will provide the opportunity for you to dive headfirst into real-world projects from day one. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the design and development of civil infrastructure across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. You will support projects by creating, managing, updating, and maintaining a variety of drawings with a strong eye for presentation and attention to detail. We're looking for team members who are excited to make a difference in the world and the communities we live and work in, are effective communicators, and thrive in collaborative environments. 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

With the supervision of a CAD technician, project engineer, and/or project manager, you will: 

  • Research jurisdictional codes and manuals to determine drafting and CAD requirements 
  • Create project drawings and exhibit deliverables 
  • Apply established company, jurisdiction, and/or project cad standards  
  • Maintain organization of project files  
  • Prepare and edit plans, profiles, sections, and details from rough sketches, redline mark-ups, and verbal instruction from team members  
  • Perform vehicular turning studies using software such as AutoTurn 
  • Be responsible for presentation and overall drawing appearance and clarity 
  • Coordinate with engineers and team members  
  • Plot and scan drawings  
  • Complete drawings and project responsibilities within acceptable timeline  
  • For CAD Technicians, understand, model, and use Civil 3D design elements  
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 1 year experience or completion of a CAD Technical education program 
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 
  • The ability and desire to work both independently and as part of a team 
  • Self-motivated, hardworking, dependable employee 
  • Be detail oriented, organized, and have good follow-through skills 
  • Clear and collaborative communication skills 
  • Ability to develop excellent working relationships with team members 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D 
Additional Information

This position will require full in-office attendance during a training period; upon successful completion, the role will transition to a hybrid schedule. 

Physical Demands:

  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasionally visiting project and construction sites may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.
  • Traveling to project sites or client meetings, which may involve driving or flying.

Compensation:

The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected range for a qualified candidate is $30.00 - $50.00/hour
