Machinist II

Job Summary:

In this job you will assist with the set-up, programming, operation, and adjustment of conventional or automatic machines such as Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) machines. In this role you will work from drawings and written instructions to create replacement and new parts in making repairs to metal parts as well as for experimental apparatus or prototype equipment and read CNC programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Write/edit/modify programs for CNC Machines.
  • Operate CNC machines according to exact tolerances specified on engineering prints.
  • Set up and operate manual lathes, saws, cutting tools, slotting tools to meet exact tolerances on engineering prints.
  • Perform routine inspections and minor maintenance, including housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and correct operational and quality issues.
  • Ensure the machine is following operational and safety guidelines.
  • Meet all production standards.
  • Run entire cell/area or multiple machines at a time.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness with safety always a priority.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience as a fully qualified machinist required.
  • Emphasis on machinist trade highly preferred.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and prints.
  • Ability to work in auto cad including work with computers, hand tools and measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers and tape measures.
  • Ability to write CNC programs.
  • Ability to set up and operate manual lathes and other machines according to precise tolerances.
  • Ability to change tooling, set up machines according to required machining sequences.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic maintenance skills.
  • Ability to work and run your machine with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements:

  • A 40-hour work week (Five 8-hour shifts/weekly on average, Monday through Friday).
  • Overtime may be required as needed to meet production demands.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and stretching.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
