A Brief Summary of This Position:

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Civil Engineering Intern position in the Global Utility Division. We are looking for a highly driven individual who will be an active participant in contributing to the goals of the Concrete Design Engineering team while learning best practices from some of the finest Engineers in the world. You will learn a tremendous amount in this role. You will be given exposure to other parts of the business, including subject matter experts from a wide variety of divisions and professions.

Valmont’s internship program's mission is to enable a rising workforce to advance the success of Valmont’s global operations. We do this through recruiting and retaining top talent, opportunities for professional development and mentorship, and real-world projects alongside practical coaching.

This position is to start part-time in the spring with the goal of continuing full-time through the summer.

Essential Functions:

  • Actively participate and recommend changes in design criteria, analysis methods, drafting procedures, and developing new methods and procedures
  • Work with a design team that consists of one or more individuals from Manufacturing, Procurement, Service, Quality Assurance, and Engineering Services getting exposure to different angles of team development including the process used for troubleshooting potential design errors
  • Gain and subsequently apply design knowledge when considering the manufacturability of the final design

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:

  • Sophomore or Junior standing pursuing a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • CAD skills including design applications and converting drawings to 3D models
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications
  • Demonstrated strong communication interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving/critical thinking skills

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Exposure to concrete testing and mix design
  • Experience in reinforced concrete design
