What is a computer aided design drafter?

Computer Aided Design (CAD) Drafters are professionals who use specialized software to create technical drawings and plans used in construction, manufacturing, and engineering projects. They convert engineers' and architects' designs into detailed schematics and blueprints that illustrate dimensions, materials, and procedures. CAD Drafters play a crucial role in ensuring that ideas are accurately translated into visual plans that guide the building or production process. Their work helps prevent costly errors and streamlines project execution.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a computer aided design drafter?

To excel as a Computer Aided Design (CAD) Drafter, you need a solid understanding of drafting principles, technical drawing, and spatial visualization, typically supported by an associate degree or certification in drafting or engineering technology. Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Revit is essential, along with familiarity with industry standards and file management systems.
