What does a computational linguistics intern do?

A Computational Linguistics Intern assists in developing and improving natural language processing (NLP) models by analyzing linguistic data, writing scripts to process text, and supporting research initiatives. They may work on tasks such as tokenization, part-of-speech tagging, syntactic parsing, or machine translation. Interns collaborate with engineers and researchers to enhance language-based AI applications and refine algorithms for better language understanding.

What does a typical day look like for a computational linguistics intern?

A typical day for a Computational Linguistics Intern involves collaborating with researchers and engineers to preprocess language data, annotate or curate datasets, and implement or test NLP models and algorithms. You may spend time writing scripts to automate tasks, analyzing results, and participating in team meetings to discuss project goals or findings. Interns often receive mentorship and feedback, allowing them to develop both technical and linguistic skills in real-world applications. You'll also have opportunities to contribute to documentation or research, making the experience both hands-on and intellectually stimulating.
