Job description

Summary
The Senior Systems Administrator is the backbone of ARL's IT operations, ensuring the smooth functioning of a complex SMB network and environment. This role will be pivotal in providing advanced technical support for the company's managed IT infrastructure, maintaining a deep understanding of both hardware and software systems. The Senior Systems Administrator actively participates in various projects, collaborating closely with the IT director to drive innovation and efficiency.
This position is crucial in supporting the IT Team, guiding Technicians in troubleshooting and identifying the root cause of helpdesk issues from routine reoccurrences to new and complex ones. Maintaining and enhancing specialized workflows. Working alongside scientists, lab staff, and administrative personnel, this role uses a mix of in-house and enterprise-level applications to ensure operations run efficiently and continually seeks to enhance through continual process improvement.
Leveraging in-depth software and technical knowledge, the Sr. Systems Administrator mentors and coaches junior staff in supporting public-facing, laboratory, and user websites and applications, including the Client Portal, Laboratory Information Management System, specific analytical testing laboratory instrument software, Freshservice ticket portals, and Microsoft Office 365 applications.
This position must have the integrity to advocate and champion Cyber Security policies, and Technical and Customer Service acumen to solve problems and create innovative solutions to various opportunities, contributing to the success of the IT department and the Business as a whole.
Work Restrictions: Because of the vital nature of this work and specific applicable federal regulations, we do not allow medical marijuana cards, and we do random drug testing on all our employees.
Work Schedule: Complete 8 hours a day, with the majority during normal company business hours, allowing for some flexibility in shifts. Normal Company business hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Some Flexibility is required for occasional extensions before or after normal company business hours and for weekends, as needed to meet business needs, but not highly anticipated.

Key Duties...
  • Provide exceptional technical support to users across all levels, ensuring a seamless experience with company-managed IT infrastructure.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex hardware and software system issues, serving as the advanced line of defense against IT disruptions.
  • Employ advanced knowledge and resources to deliver informed and effective solutions to intricate problems.
  • Collaborate with the IT Director and department leadership to develop and improve IT procedures, setting higher standards of service and efficiency.
  • Operate and navigate the help desk and end-user software, optimizing the resolution process.
  • Redirect the most complex problems to the appropriate resources, ensuring timely and accurate resolution at a higher level.
  • Identify and rank critical issues, allocating attention to maximizing system performance and user productivity.
  • Track, document, and analyze problem-solving processes, creating a comprehensive knowledge base for the IT infrastructure.
  • Lead and contribute to IT projects that extend beyond help desk tickets, driving continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Report and analyze recurring problems, playing a pivotal role in enhancing IT operations and strategies.
  • Champion and enhance cyber security policies, contributing to a secure and resilient IT environment.
  • Train, mentor, and coach department employees on specifically assigned processes.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in techniques and technology relevant to the field and stays current on industry, company, and departmental methodologies, terminology, and regulations.
  • Adherence to all ARL Bio Pharma safety standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Maintain adequate attendance as per department and company expectations.

Minimum Requirements...
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 3 years of experience in a Help Desk/ IT Support-related role.
  • Preferred qualifiers include:
    • Certification in CompTIA A+, Net+, Sec+ or similar, CCNA, Microsoft is preferred.
    • 4 years of experience in a Help Desk/ IT Support-related role is also preferred
    • Experience with Hyper- V
    • Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy.
    • Experience with PowerShell scripting or similar tools for automation.
Work Environment...
  • This position has no direct reports. This position supplies much-needed mentorship and leadership to the department as a subject expert.

  • Exposure to dust and fumes.
  • This role occasionally uses simple shop tools, including but not limited to screwdrivers, wire cutters, and crimping tools.

Physical Requirements...
  • This is a partially active role with periods of walking between floors and buildings daily, and some filing is required.

  • Ability to sit and stand in front of a computer for extended periods, with intermittent twisting/bending to reach instruments or supplies surrounding equipment.
  • Routinely stand, stoop, climb ladders, and walk in the performance of duties with occasional kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
  • Ability to use hand strength and finger dexterity to perform fine manipulations of tool equipment, including turning, pressing, twisting, and typing.
  • Must be fluent in written and spoken English to receive and communicate information for standard and complex operations and emergencies clearly and accurately.
  • Requires visual acuity to read and write words and numbers and to see in the normal visual range including ability to distinguish colors with or without correction.
